Job Description Summary
As a Senior Welder, you will be responsible for performing and supervising complex welding tasks for marine, offshore, and heavy fabrication projects. The role requires advanced proficiency across welding processes, the ability to read and execute from engineering drawings and WPS (Welding Procedure Specifications), and experience coordinating with QA/QC teams.
The Senior Welder will also support training and mentorship of junior welding staff and ensure all work areas and practices meet safety and regulatory requirements.
Responsibility:
- Execute high-quality welding on structural and marine components according to ABS standards.
- Interpret engineering drawings, WPS, and blueprints; follow welding symbols and joint details.
- Prepare joints (cutting, beveling, fitting, alignment) and perform fabrication assemblies.
- Maintain weld quality through correct heat-input control and application of proper techniques.
- Support and participate in weld inspections with ABS surveyors, QA/QC inspectors, and project engineers.
- Prepare for and support NDT as required (VT, PT, MT, UT) and correct any defects.
- Weld in all positions (1G - 6G), including overhead and vertical multi-pass welds.
- Work safely near sensitive electrical and F&G systems.
- Maintain, calibrate, and care for welding equipment and consumables.
- Mentor and train junior welders; promote best practices and continuous improvement.
- Strictly follow site safety rules, PPE use, and confined space/height work procedures.
Skills and Qualifications:
1. OND or its equivalent.
2. 5+ years of professional welding experience.
3. Valid ABS Welder Certification.
4. Proven ability to read and apply engineering drawings, WPS, and specifications.
5. Experience with carbon steel, stainless steel, and other alloys.
6. Familiarity with ABS class rules and production inspection processes.
7. Physically fit for welding work, including confined spaces and working at height.
8. Strong commitment to safety and quality standards.
