This pivotal role involves working closely with communities and governments to facilitate reconciliation and address the impacts of past injustices. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in designing and implementing strategies that promote transitional justice initiatives, supporting affected communities in their quest for truth, justice, and reparations. By collaborating with local partners, international agencies, and stakeholders, the Senior Transitional Justice Officer will help to create sustainable frameworks that empower communities to heal and rebuild. This position requires a deep understanding of human rights, legal frameworks, and restorative practices, along with strong leadership and advocacy skills. Responsibilities
- Develop and implement comprehensive transitional justice strategies in collaboration with local stakeholders
- Conduct thorough assessments of the needs and circumstances of affected communities to inform program design
- Engage in advocacy efforts to promote legal reforms and policies related to transitional justice at local and national levels
- Facilitate dialogue sessions and workshops to foster community engagement and reconciliation
- Coordinate with government agencies and NGOs to ensure the effective delivery of transitional justice initiatives
- Monitor and evaluate program outcomes, making adjustments as needed to enhance effectiveness and impact
- Prepare detailed reports and presentations on program developments, challenges, and successes for various stakeholders
Requirements
- Advanced university degree in Social/Behavioral Sciences (Law, Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Education, Anthropology, Development Studies, or related field).
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in transitional justice, human rights, or related areas
- Strong understanding of legal and normative frameworks surrounding transitional justice
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively across diverse cultures
- Proven track record in project management and implementation, including monitoring and evaluation
- Experience in advocacy and engagement with governmental and civil society organizations
- Fluency in English is required; proficiency in additional languages is an asset
- Proven experience working in humanitarian or post-conflict contexts
- Ability and willingness to travel frequently to field locations
