Job Scope

  •  We are recruiting for a Senior Plant Handler to head up the Plant Care & Maintenance Team at KOTTA Plant Co.
  • The Senior Plant Handler is responsible for overseeing the handling of all plants at KOTTA Plant Co.
  • The successful candidate will serve as the in-house horticulture expert, and their expertise will shape decisions within the business.
  • This is a key role that requires strategic thinking and planning. The successful candidate will work directly with the Plant Director (whom they will report to) to make recommendations on plant styling and plant arrangement.
  • They will support with budgeting, plant sourcing, and coordinating the delivery and installation of plants across all job sites.
  • The successful candidate will manage the maintenance subscriptions and coordinate site visits across all client locations.
  • The Senior Plant Handler will define the care standards, service guidelines, and best practices for plant handling and plant care & maintenance, and develop them into guidelines that the team will run and operate by.

Duties

  • Attend meetings with the Design Team to provide input on plant styling, budget projections, and maintenance planning.
  • Collaborate with the Plant Director to identify opportunities for operational and strategic improvement.
  • Identify, escalate, and resolve issues affecting plant quality, service delivery, and project budgets.
  • Work with the Ethics Chairman to develop and continuously improve guidelines for plant handling and maintenance.
  • Vet and manage garden suppliers to ensure alignment with company standards and ethical practices.
  • Source plants for projects, ensuring value for money, transparency, and ethical vendor alignment.
  • Coordinate the handling, logistics, and installation of all plant projects.
  • Oversee the Plant Care & Maintenance Team, including:
  1. Developing personalised plant care plans
  2. Managing maintenance schedules
  3. Ensuring service visits are completed and documented
  4. Providing regular client updates and reports
  5. Lead training and development for Junior Plant Handlers to maintain high performance and up-to-date horticultural practices.
  • Maintain accurate financial records and support weekly reconciliation with the Finance Manager.
  • Manage petty cash responsibly.


Qualifications, Skills and Experience

Essential

- Minimum of 10 years industry experience.

- Experience in plant maintenance, weeding, pruning, transplanting etc.

- Experience in plant installation, transplanting, soil changing.

- Full Driver’s Licence

- Bookkeeping.

- Report writing


Desirable

- B.Sc in Horticulture

- Higher National Diploma (HND) in Horticulture Technology
