Job summary

The Senior Manager, Green Growth will lead climate and sustainability projects, manage technical workstreams, ensure quality delivery, mentor teams, engage clients and stakeholders, support business development, develop thought leadership, and drive Murty’s Green Growth practice across governments, investors, corporates, and development partners.

Job descriptions & requirements

Responsibilities:

Team Leadership and Practice Development:

  • Lead the day-to-day operations of the Green Growth team, managing and mentoring analysts, associates, consultants, and external specialists.
  • Build team capability and develop the practice’s service offerings, tools, templates and delivery standards.
  • Capture lessons from assignments and maintain a repository of deliverables, credentials, and proposal inputs.


Delivery and Technical Quality:

  • Lead and manage Green Growth assignments and technical workstreams end to end.
  • Prepare and review client-ready reports, strategy documents, policy briefs and presentations, ensuring they are analytical, practical, and well-written.
  • Coordinate inputs from colleagues, external specialists and client counterparts, and escalate delivery, resourcing and quality risks.


Climate Strategy and Sector Transition:

  • Lead green growth strategies, climate action plans, low-carbon development strategies and sector transition roadmaps.
  • Lead just transition frameworks, policy and regulatory reform roadmaps, state climate strategies and climate-aligned development partner programmes.
  • Translate client climate ambition into sector priorities, institutional actions and implementation roadmaps.
  • Lead sector work across energy transition and clean cooking, climate-smart agriculture and AFOLU, green industrialisation, e-mobility, water and waste, sustainable cities, resilient infrastructure, nature-based solutions and critical minerals.


Climate Finance, Governance and Carbon Markets:

  • Lead climate finance diagnostics, gap and readiness assessments, strategies and roadmaps, and advise clients on finance sources and development partner priorities.
  • Lead climate budget tagging, climate investment planning and climate finance institutional strengthening.
  • Lead climate institutional diagnostics, governance frameworks, and coordination mechanisms.
  • Lead Article 6 and voluntary carbon market readiness, carbon market policy, MRV framework design, and NDC and LT-LEDS implementation support.


Resilience, Sustainability and Decarbonization:

  • Lead climate risk and vulnerability assessments, adaptation plans, resilience strategies and adaptation finance readiness.
  • Lead sustainability strategies, ESG readiness and materiality assessments, and climate disclosure readiness.
  • Lead GHG inventory support, decarbonization roadmaps, net-zero pathways, circular economy strategies and green procurement frameworks.


Business Development and Client Engagement:

  • Lead smaller technical proposals and contribute technical content, methodologies, workplans and credentials to larger proposals, EOIs and pitch materials.
  • Identify new client needs and emerging opportunities and maintain a pipeline of Green Growth work.
  • Engage government agencies, development partners, DFIs, investors, private-sector actors and civil society, and facilitate interviews, workshops and technical working sessions.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 8 years’ relevant experience in climate, green growth, sustainability, climate finance, carbon markets, resilience, ESG or related fields.
  • Strong experience supporting or leading advisory assignments for government, development partners, DFIs, corporates or investors.
  • Demonstrated depth in several areas: climate strategy; climate finance readiness; climate governance; carbon markets and MRV; adaptation and resilience; ESG and decarbonization.
  • Experience managing workstreams and cross-functional teams.
  • Strong research, analysis, writing, and presentation skills, with the ability to run multiple assignments against competing deadlines.
  • Strong understanding of Nigerian and/or African development, climate or public-sector contexts.


Desirable:

  • Postgraduate degree in climate, environmental policy, sustainability, economics, engineering, finance, public policy or a related field.
  • Familiarity with NDCs, LT-LEDS, Article 6, voluntary carbon markets, GCF/GEF/CIF-type finance, climate budget tagging, ESG disclosure frameworks, and GHG accounting.
  • Experience working with multilateral development banks, bilateral donors, climate funds, or government agencies.
  • Experience contributing to proposals, concept notes and EOIs, and relevant professional certifications.
