Senior Finance Associate
Job descriptions & requirements
Company Description
Folti is a fast-growing Electric Mobility company at the forefront of sustainable transportation in Africa. Through our integrated Ride-Hailing and Car Rental platforms, we connect commuters, corporates, and fleet operators with clean, affordable, and technology-driven mobility solutions. Our mission is to decarbonise last-mile and intercity travel while delivering exceptional customer and driver experiences.
Role Purpose
We are looking for a commercially sharp, technically rigorous Finance Manager to own the full spectrum of financial management for Folti's growing Nigeria operations. This is not an entry-level or purely transactional role. The successful candidate will bring audit-trained discipline, deep IFRS fluency, and the confidence to function as a strategic finance partner to senior leadership while maintaining absolute control over the day-to-day integrity of our management accounts, financial reporting, and high-volume reconciliation and settlement processes.
The ideal candidate has served in an audit firm environment and has since built operational finance depth in a fast-paced, technology-driven or high-transaction-volume business. You understand what good looks like and you build it.
Key Responsibilities
A. Management Accounting
• Own and produce monthly, quarterly, and annual management accounts - P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow - across the Ride-Hailing and Car Rental business units, with zero-tolerance for delays or inaccuracies.
• Lead detailed cost and variance analysis against budget and forecast; provide insightful, board-ready commentary that drives management decisions, not just describes them.
• Govern cost centres, project codes, and departmental budgets within the ERP system; enforce financial discipline across business units.
• Drive the budgeting and forecasting cycle end-to-end, including driver acquisition costs, fleet depreciation, maintenance capex, and platform operating expenses.
• Design, own, and report on key financial KPIs - Revenue per Trip, Cost per Kilometre, Fleet Utilisation Rate, EBITDA margin by segment - with forward-looking analysis.
• Lead financial modelling for new mobility verticals, market expansion, fleet growth, and capital investment decisions.
B. Financial Reporting
• Prepare and own statutory financial statements in full compliance with IFRS, ensuring accuracy, completeness, timeliness, and audit readiness at all times.
• Lead the external audit process - prepare audit schedules, reconciliation packs, and ensure all auditor queries are resolved swiftly and professionally.
• Compile and file all regulatory and tax returns: VAT, WHT, CIT, and sector-specific levies; manage tax compliance calendar with zero late submissions.
• Maintain an immaculate general ledger; ensure all journal entries are properly documented, authorised, and posted in line with the month-end close calendar.
• Prepare consolidated financial reports spanning ride-hailing operations, rental fleet, and ancillary services.
• Own board-level financial reporting decks and investor/stakeholder reporting packages in collaboration with the Head of Finance.
C. Reconciliation & Settlement
• Oversee daily, weekly, and monthly reconciliation of all revenue streams - in-app payments, card transactions, wallet top-ups, corporate accounts, and cash collections - maintaining a flawless audit trail.
• Reconcile payment gateway remittances (Paystack, Transactpay, Interswitch, or equivalent) against internal booking and billing records; escalate and resolve discrepancies within SLA.
• Manage end-to-end driver and fleet owner settlement processes: validate trip earnings, apply deductions, and ensure accurate and timely payouts.
• Investigate and resolve settlement discrepancies, short payments, duplicate transactions, and disputed charges with urgency and precision.
• Reconcile rental fleet billing - corporate clients, subscription plans, daily rentals - against contract terms and usage data.
• Maintain a clean suspense/clearing account; ensure all unallocated items are resolved within the reporting period without exception.
• Coordinate with Operations and Technology teams to validate trip data, fare calculations, surge pricing, and promotional adjustments reflected in financial records.
D. Controls, Compliance & Process Improvement
• Design, implement, and continuously improve the internal controls framework; identify weaknesses and remediate proactively before they become audit findings.
• Enforce financial policies and procedures across the organisation; serve as the finance function's standards guardian.
• Lead or support tax planning and transfer pricing compliance where applicable.
• Identify opportunities for automation, process efficiency, and system upgrades; champion technology-enabled improvements to the finance function.
• Mentor and develop junior finance staff; raise the technical capability of the team.
Qualifications & Experience
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related discipline - minimum Second Class Upper or equivalent.
• Fully qualified professional accountant: ACA, ACCA Membership of ICAN is an added advantage.
• 6 to 8 years of progressive hands-on finance experience, with a demonstrable track record of ownership and delivery.
• Prior experience in a Big 4 accounting firm (Deloitte, PwC, EY, KPMG) or a recognised mid-tier audit firm.
• Post-audit experience in a fintech, mobility, logistics, e-commerce, or high-transaction-volume business is strongly preferred.
• Advanced proficiency in at least one major ERP system: SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, Odoo, or equivalent.
• Expert-level Microsoft Excel - financial modelling, scenario analysis, pivot tables, XLOOKUP, and data validation.
• Solid working knowledge of IFRS, Nigerian tax regulations, and statutory reporting requirements.
• Familiarity with payment gateway reporting and reconciliation tools is a strong advantage.
Core Competencies & Skills
• Audit-trained precision: Exceptional attention to detail and a zero-error mindset shaped by professional audit practice.
• Commercial acumen: Ability to read the business behind the numbers and translate financial insight into strategic recommendations.
• Analytical rigour: Proven ability to identify trends, anomalies, and root causes from complex, high-volume datasets.
• Leadership: Confidence to lead, mentor, and hold a team accountable to high standards.
• Communication: Ability to present complex financial findings clearly to non-finance stakeholders, including Board and investors.
• Integrity: Uncompromising professional ethics in handling sensitive financial, settlement, and payroll data.
• Resilience under pressure: Ability to manage competing deadlines and deliver consistently during month-end, audit, and board cycles.
• Continuous improvement mindset: Proactively identifies process gaps and champions automation and control enhancements.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
• Management accounts issued within 5 working days of month-end, with zero material errors.
• 100% reconciliation completion rate within defined close timelines.
• Settlement error rate maintained below agreed threshold; all exceptions resolved within SLA.
• Zero material audit findings attributable to financial reporting, reconciliation, or controls failures.
• 100% on-time submission of all tax and statutory filings.
• Measurable improvement in finance team efficiency and reporting accuracy within first 6 months.
What We Offer
• Competitive, experience-commensurate salary and a performance-based bonus scheme aligned to business and personal KPIs.
• A genuine seat at the table: direct exposure to Board reporting, investor relations, and strategic finance decisions.
• Work at the forefront of Africa's electric mobility and clean transportation revolution - a business that matters.
• Continuous professional development: study support, and cross-functional exposure.
• Health insurance, pension contributions, and all applicable statutory benefits.
• Hybrid working arrangement with flexibility to support work-life balance.
