Role Description

This is a full-time hybrid role for a Senior Backend Engineer specializing in .NET and C#. The position is based in Lagos. The Senior Backend Engineerwill be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining scalable backend services and APIs, ensuring security and performance optimization, and collaborating closely with the product and frontend teams. Additionally, the role includes mentoring junior developers, performing code reviews, and contributing to architectural decisions to align the technology with business goals. This is a high-impact leadership role where you'll design production-scale infrastructure handling real-time betting operations, payment processing, and social features for thousands of concurrent users.

What You'll Do

•   Design and build robust, scalable backend services in C# / .NET 8+

•   Contribute to core platform domains: bet placement & settlement, wallet & payments, live sports data ingestion, user communities, and social feed

•   Write clean, well-tested code and participate actively in code reviews

•   Work with PostgreSQL (complex queries, indexing, JSONB), Redis (caching & pub/sub), and Kafka (event streaming)

•   Collaborate with mobile and frontend teams via well-designed REST and gRPC APIs

•   Take ownership of reliability — monitoring, alerting, and incident response for services you build

•   Help shape engineering culture as an early hire — your habits set the standard

What We're Looking For

•   5+ years of backend engineering experience

•   Deep expertise in C# / .NET — ideally .NET 6+ / .NET 8

•   Strong fundamentals in distributed systems, API design, event-driven architecture, and data modelling

•   Hands-on experience with PostgreSQL, Redis, and Kafka (or equivalent message broker)

•   Solid understanding of cloud infrastructure — AWS preferred; experience with Kubernetes/EKS a strong plus

•   Track record of mentoring engineers and raising the bar for a team

•   Excellent communication and the ability to work across product, mobile, and frontend teams

•   Prior experience in fintech, gaming, or high-transaction-volume platforms is a strong advantage

Nice to Have

•   Experience building or scaling a betting, gaming, or real-time financial platform

•   Familiarity with BFF (Backend for Frontend) patterns for mobile and web

•   Exposure to observability tooling — Datadog, OpenTelemetry, or equivalent

•   Experience working across African markets, especially Nigeria
