Senior Backend Engineer

Responsibilities:

• The transaction engine and dual-wallet ledger: correctness of every balance, every time, including when partner callbacks arrive twice or never
• Partner integrations: crypto execution, NGN virtual accounts and payment rails, KYC verification, gift card fulfilment. Webhooks, idempotency, retries, reconciliation
• New roadmap systems: a universal payment handle resolving across crypto chains and bank rails, campaign and reward engines, tier-based transaction monitoring
• Production reliability: incident response, root-cause analysis, deploy safety, rollback plans
• Admin console features end-to-end when the work calls for it
• Security and compliance engineering: AML monitoring rules, protecting user data, keeping secrets out of code

Requirements:

• 5+ years of backend engineering, with at least 2 years operating production systems at a Nigerian fintech or payments company. You have been on call when money was stuck, and users were angry
• Deep Node.js and TypeScript experience in production
• Real integration scars: third-party financial APIs, idempotency, webhook verification, retry strategy, and what partner sandboxes lie about
• Ledger discipline: double-entry thinking, why balances are derived rather than stored casually, how reconciliation catches what real-time processing misses
• Comfort across our TypeScript stack: expert on backend, productive in the React admin console, able to read and debug React Native API contracts
• Communication as a reflex: you confirm receipt, give ETAs, flag risk before deadlines rather than after, and never go silent on a task. We measure this. It is 45% of the engineering scorecard here

Additional Skills (But Not Required):

• Experience at a Nigerian crypto platform or licensed VASP
• You have led engineers before: run standups, enforced code review standards, or performance-managed a developer who was missing deadlines. As our team grows, this role grows into leading it.
• You have built or operated wallet systems, card issuing, or cross-border rails
• You have worked directly with compliance teams on transaction monitoring
