Role Summary
The Quality Assurance Manager will be responsible for ensuring that all maize milling operations (flour, grits, and offal production) meet defined internal quality standards, regulatory requirements, and customer specifications. The role requires strong hands-on experience in maize flour milling or similar grain processing environments, with a focus on food safety, process control, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Quality Control & Assurance
- Oversee all quality assurance activities across maize flour, grits, and offal production lines
- Implement and maintain HACCP, GMP, and other food safety systems
- Conduct routine inspections and audits of raw materials, in-process products, and finished goods
- Ensure compliance with Nigerian food safety regulations and relevant international standards
Process Monitoring
- Monitor critical control points in the milling process to ensure consistent product quality
- Work closely with production teams to identify and resolve quality deviations
- Analyse production data to improve yield, reduce waste, and enhance product consistency
Laboratory & Testing
- Supervise in-house laboratory testing for moisture content, particle size, ash content, and other maize quality parameters
- Ensure accurate documentation and traceability of all test results
- Validate quality of incoming maize grains before processing
Supplier & Raw Material Quality
- Work with procurement teams to set and enforce raw maize quality standards
- Evaluate and approve suppliers based on quality performance
- Conduct periodic supplier audits where necessary
Compliance & Documentation
- Maintain all QA documentation, SOPs, and quality manuals
- Ensure readiness for internal and external audits
- Prepare regular quality performance reports for management
Continuous Improvement
- Lead initiatives to improve product quality, shelf life, and process efficiency
- Train production and QA staff on quality standards and best practices
- Drive a culture of food safety and quality ownership across the plant
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Food Technology, Microbiology, or related field
- Minimum 5–8 years’ experience in quality assurance within a maize milling or grain processing environment (flour, grits, semolina, or similar)
- Strong knowledge of maize processing equipment and milling operations
- Experience with HACCP, GMP, ISO 22000 or similar food safety systems
- Hands-on laboratory experience in grain/flour quality testing
