Job Summary
MCNS is seeking a suitable, visionary leader to fill the position of Provost. As the Chief Academic and Administrative Officer of the College, the Provost provides overall academic, administrative and strategic leadership; ensures the highest standards of teaching, learning, clinical training and research; and upholds compliance with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) and all relevant regulatory and accreditation bodies. The Provost works closely with the Governing Council/management, faculty, staff and external stakeholders to advance the mission, growth and reputation of the College.
Responsibilities:
- Provide overall academic and administrative leadership for the College in line with its mission, vision and ICARE core values.
- Develop and implement the College's strategic plan, academic policies and annual operational goals.
- Oversee the design, delivery, review and accreditation of all academic and clinical programmes.
- Ensure full compliance with NMCN and other regulatory, statutory and accreditation requirements.
- Lead, supervise and motivate academic and non-academic staff, fostering a culture of excellence, accountability and professional development.
- Oversee student admissions, welfare, discipline, academic progress and overall student experience.
- Chair the Academic Board and relevant committees, and provide reports and recommendations to the Governing Council/management.
- Manage the College's resources, budgets and infrastructure prudently in collaboration with management.
- Promote research, scholarship, innovation and community-service initiatives.
- Build and maintain partnerships with clinical placement sites, healthcare institutions, regulators and other stakeholders.
- Represent and promote the College at official, professional and public engagements.
- Drive quality assurance, continuous improvement and a positive institutional culture.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Governing Council/management from time to time.
Requirements:
- A Master's degree in Nursing, Nursing Education, Public Health, Health Administration or a related field is required; a PhD (Doctorate) is strongly preferred and an advantage.
- Registered Nurse (RN) and/or Registered Midwife (RM) with a current, valid NMCN licence (essential for a nursing-led college; a strong health-sciences leadership background may be considered for exceptional candidates).
- A minimum of 6–10 years of progressive experience in nursing/health education, including at least 3–5 years in a senior academic leadership or management role (e.g., Provost, Deputy Provost, Dean, Head of Department or equivalent).
- Demonstrated knowledge of NMCN regulations, accreditation processes and curriculum/quality-assurance standards.
- Proven track record in academic administration, strategic planning, staff leadership and institutional development.
- Strong financial, organisational and resource-management capabilities.
- Excellent leadership, interpersonal, communication and stakeholder-management skills; must be eloquent and exude confidence.
- Evidence of research, scholarship and/or publications is an added advantage.
- High level of integrity, professionalism, sound judgement and commitment to the ICARE core values.
- Ability to drive change, innovation and continuous improvement across the institution.
