Job Summary

Our client requires Project Manager with experience in the agricultural sector to oversee their overall warehouse and field operations, staff and community engagement. He/she will will report to the Director of Operations as well as the CEO. Experience in the agricultural commodity trading industry in Nigeria is ESSENTIAL.

Job Description/Requirements

Specific responsibilities of the Project Manager

The project manager, operating within agreed reporting structures, is responsible for:

Planning 

  • Producing implementation plans and timelines covering all aspects of the commodity season cycle (activity/resource planning and sequencing, including charts and schedules)

  • Designing and applying appropriate project management standards for incorporation in the warehouse and field operations Process

Managing and Supervising

  • Managing project risks, including the development of contingency plans

  • Maintaining and fostering established relationships with customers, clients, suppliers, and other business partners, such as off-takers, insurance companies, Local Buying agents, warehouse operators, trucking companies, farmers, Community leaders e.t.c.

  • Ensuring effective communication of all change, ensuring that the relevant management, operations staff, and stakeholders are engaged, and all issues and risk are flagged and escalated accordingly

  • Monitoring overall progress and use of resources, initiating corrective action where necessary

  • Managing staff and overseeing the day-to-day activities related to the management and implementation of the commodity trading operations (warehouse, communal drying facilities, and field operations).

  • Ensuring compliance with all required regulations


Engaging

  • Collaborating with farmers and Local Buying Agents and Quality control team on improving quality of commodities received.

  • liaison with Executive (CEO & Director of Operations) to assure the overall direction and integrity of the operations

  • Inculcating extensive knowledge on agro-commodities and their sales and purchase.

  • Employing various initiatives to coach employees to optimize their capabilities.

  • Monitoring market price of commodities on a regular basis

  • Building a strong and self-sufficient commodity supply base and participate in expansion activities for commodity sourcing

  • Performing any other function as required by Director of Operations and CEO

 Documents

  • Working with Director of Operations to prepare timely and accurate budgets and financial performance reports

  • Preparation and submission of relevant reports to the Director of Operations and CEO

  • Document List include:

    • Stakeholder matrix

    • Workplan

    • Communication plan

    • Risk log

    • Action and issue tracker

    • Season Report

    • Market research and feasibility

    • Updated Human Resource register 


Qualifications

  • Ability to demonstrate both traditional and agile based Project Management skills and tailor expert knowledge to meet specific circumstances

  • Attention to detail and investigative skills

  • Proactive mind-set with good problem-solving abilities

  • Excellent written, verbal and presentation communication skills including extensive experience of interaction with senior management and clients

  • Ability to clearly define and articulate business requirements

  • Confidence in communicating internally at all levels; candidate will be dealing with front office, middle office and technology teams on a daily basis who are both business and technically sophisticated

  • Independent, proactive, self-motivated, and flexible with a positive attitude

  • Works well with others and is a good team player

  • Strong time management skills: efficient at multi-tasking and able to work under pressure to deliver multiple business demands on-time, to a high-level standard (Note working hours is not defined due to the complexities associated with the trade season)

  • Experience in working with technology development teams during build and implementation phases of requirements

  • understand and apply business case and risk management processes

  • Able to build relationships and influence others 

  • Control focused

  • Ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects while continuing to deliver on daily requirements                                                           


Desirable Skills: 

  • Certified Project Management Professional 

  • Advanced MS Excel

  • Experience in agro commodities
