Key Responsibilities
1. Strategic Sourcing & Procurement
- Develop and execute the procurement strategy for the plant, focusing on raw materials (e.g., aggregates, binders, chemicals), packaging, spare parts, and critical services.
- Lead the end-to-end procurement cycle: supplier identification, qualification, RFQ/RFP process, negotiation, contracting, and supplier performance management.
- Achieve cost savings targets while maintaining or improving quality and service levels.
- Establish and maintain a robust local and international supplier base to ensure supply continuity and competitive advantage.
2. Supplier Relationship Management
- Build and manage strong, collaborative relationships with key suppliers and contractors.
- Conduct regular supplier performance reviews and audits, ensuring compliance with contracts, quality standards, and delivery schedules.
- Develop and implement risk management strategies for critical supply categories to mitigate disruptions.
3. Budgeting, Cost Control & Compliance
- Prepare and manage the procurement budget, tracking expenditures and reporting on savings.
- Ensure all procurement activities comply with company policies, Nigerian regulations, and international best practices.
- Maintain impeccable records of contracts, purchase orders, and procurement transactions.
4. Cross-functional Collaboration
- Work closely with Production, Maintenance, and Quality Assurance teams to understand material requirements and specifications.
- Partner with the Logistics and Warehouse teams to optimize inventory levels (safety stock, re-order points) and inbound material flow.
- Support new product development or process changes by engaging suppliers early in the planning phase.
5. Team Leadership & Process Improvement
- Lead, mentor, and develop the procurement team, fostering a culture of professionalism and continuous improvement.
- Implement and leverage procurement technologies and ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle) to streamline processes and enhance data visibility.
- Champion sustainable and ethical procurement practices within the supply base.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field. A Master’s degree or professional certification (e.g., CIPS, CPSM) is a strong advantage.
- Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in procurement or strategic sourcing, with at least 5 years in a managerial role within a manufacturing, industrial, or construction materials environment.
- Proven experience in sourcing raw materials for building materials, cement, chemicals, or related heavy industries is essential.
- Demonstrated success in negotiating high-value contracts and delivering sustained cost savings.
- Deep understanding of international trade, logistics, customs clearance, and the Nigerian procurement landscape.
- High proficiency in using ERP systems for procurement and advanced MS Excel for data analysis.
