Job descriptions & requirements

Responsibilities:

  • Review and validate prescriptions for accuracy, appropriateness, and potential drug interactions before dispensing.
  • Dispense prescription and over-the-counter medications accurately and in accordance with professional standards.
  • Provide patients with counseling on medication use, dosage, side effects, storage, and adherence.
  • Monitor medication therapy and identify, prevent, and resolve medication-related problems.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to optimize patient care.
  • Maintain accurate patient medication records and pharmacy documentation.
  • Manage pharmaceutical inventory, including procurement, storage, stock control, and expiry monitoring.
  • Ensure the proper storage and handling of medicines in accordance with regulatory and manufacturer requirements.
  • Participate in medication safety initiatives, pharmacovigilance, and adverse drug reaction reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with pharmacy laws, professional ethics, and regulatory requirements.
  • Supervise pharmacy technicians and support staff where applicable.
  • Participate in quality improvement activities, clinical audits, and continuing professional development.
  • Maintain cleanliness, security, and organization of the pharmacy.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the Head of Pharmacy or Hospital Management.


Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm) or Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) from an accredited institution.
  • Valid registration and current practicing license with the appropriate Pharmacy regulatory authority.
  • Minimum of 1–3 years of hospital or community pharmacy experience is an advantage.
  • Sound knowledge of pharmacology, therapeutics, drug interactions, and pharmaceutical regulations.
  • Proficiency in prescription review, medication dispensing, and inventory management.
  • Strong communication and patient counseling skills.
  • Good analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Proficiency in electronic medical records (EMR) and pharmacy management systems is an added advantage.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary healthcare environment.
