Operations Manager
Job summary
Our client is a reputable clearing and forwarding company in Lagos. The company is now seeking to recruit an outstanding Operations Manager (Import/Export). Reporting to the Managing Director, you will oversee and manage end-to-end customs clearing, freight forwarding, transit shed, and bonded warehouse operations.

Responsibilities:
- Prepare and present reports concerning budgets, import & export positions, and clearing status to the senior management team.
- Collect all suppliers/contractors invoices and prepare Invoice Approval Forms (IAF) for approval and onward
- payment for all contracts awarded.
- Liaise with various government agencies and parastatals to obtain import/export permits.
- Liaise with shipping companies on appropriateness of debit notes, Invoices & Delivery orders allocation.
- Liaise with shipping companies to calculate refunds & obtain demurrage and container deposit waiver, and ascertaining appropriateness of debit notes & terminal charges.
- Coordinate activities of clearing and ensure timely delivery from the port to the warehouse/project site.
- Coordinate the dispatch of trucks out of the ports and ensure prompt delivery to the warehouse.
- Coordinate transportation activities for all cargo for delivery from the port to the warehouse/project site.
- Coordinate the opening of Form M / RAR with the bank and inspection agencies.
- Coordinate payments to shipping companies, terminal storage & handling companies, and relevant agencies.
- Maintain warehousing & distribution operations and procedures; Inventory reconciliation.
- Report to management on weekly import/export positions and budget requirements.
- Follow up on shipment instructions, tracking shipment, updating status to the customers & updating the same in the company system.
- Make payments to shipping companies and track the delivery orders to allocated ports and terminals.
- Track international freight forwarding and customs brokerage of import and export shipments in a timely and cost-effective manner whilst meeting all international trade market and Nigerian Customs compliance regulations.
- Ensure good relationships are maintained with relevant Government agencies: NPA, SON, Customs, and NAFDAC.
Requirements:
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or its equivalent in any discipline.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in customs clearing and forwarding. At least 3 years’ experience in a supervisory or managerial role.
- Strong knowledge of customs procedures, bonded warehouse operations, and transit regulations.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Proficiency in Ms. Office packages: Excel, Word, PowerPoint
- Additional education or certifications in Logistics or a related field are advantageous
