Responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver engaging Music lessons in line with the school curriculum and students’ learning needs.
- Teach fundamental concepts of Music, including music theory, notation, rhythm, melody, harmony, scales, and musical terminology.
- Provide practical instruction in vocal performance and relevant musical instruments.
- Develop students’ singing, listening, performing, composing, and music-reading skills.
- Organise practical music sessions, rehearsals, performances, and other musical activities.
- Identify and nurture students with special musical abilities and encourage their talents.
- Prepare lesson plans, instructional materials, assignments, practical exercises, tests, and examinations.
- Assess students’ musical knowledge, performance, and progress regularly and provide constructive feedback.
- Prepare students adequately for internal and external examinations where Music is offered as a subject.
- Encourage creativity and self-expression through singing, instrumental performance, composition, and other musical activities.
- Teach students appropriate performance etiquette, discipline, teamwork, and confidence.
- Ensure proper handling, storage, and maintenance of musical instruments and other Music Department resources.
- Incorporate appropriate technology and digital resources into Music teaching and learning.
- Coordinate or support the College choir, musical groups, concerts, cultural events, and other school programmes as required.
- Maintain accurate records of students’ attendance, assessments, performance, and academic progress.
- Create a positive, disciplined, and supportive learning environment that encourages students to develop their musical abilities.
- Participate in departmental meetings, school activities, training programmes, and other duties assigned by the School Management.
Requirements:
- A Bachelor’s Degree/HND in Music, Music Education, Performing Arts, or a related field.
- Relevant teaching or tutoring experience is an added advantage.
- Strong knowledge of Music theory and practical performance.
- Ability to sing and/or play one or more musical instruments proficiently.
- Good communication, interpersonal, classroom-management, and performance skills.
- Ability to teach students with different levels of musical ability.
- Creativity, patience, enthusiasm, and a passion for developing students’ musical talents.
- Ability to organise rehearsals, performances, and musical activities effectively.
- Proficiency in relevant music software or digital music tools is an added advantage.
