Medical Laboratory Scientist (Head of Laboratory)
Job summary
We are seeking a competent and experienced Medical Laboratory Scientist to serve as the Head of Laboratory. The ideal candidate will oversee daily laboratory operations, ensure the accuracy and reliability of test results, maintain full compliance with MLSCN and other regulatory bodies, and provide strategic leadership to the laboratory team. This position requires strong technical expertise, excellent management skills, and strict adherence to quality assurance and safety standards.

Responsibilities:
- Lead and supervise all laboratory staff, assign duties, manage schedules, and ensure optimal workflow.
- Perform and oversee routine and advanced tests in hematology, microbiology, chemistry, parasitology, serology, and urinalysis.
- Validate, authorize, and release test results with a high level of accuracy and professionalism.
- Ensure full compliance with MLSCN, NCDC, and all laboratory quality and biosafety standards.
- Maintain and enforce Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all laboratory processes.
- Oversee equipment maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting to ensure continuous functionality.
- Manage laboratory inventory, track reagent usage, and provide timely requisitions to prevent shortages.
- Lead Quality Control (QC) and Quality Assurance (QA) activities, including internal and external quality assessments.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and compliant laboratory environment in line with biosafety levels and protocols.
- Prepare and submit detailed laboratory reports to management, including operational, QC, and incident reports.
- Provide training, mentorship, and continuous professional development for laboratory staff.
- Liaise with clinicians, management, and other departments to support efficient patient care and organizational goals.
Requirements:
- Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science (B.MLS).
- Current practicing license from the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN).
- Minimum of 3 years post-NYSC experience.
- Strong technical knowledge across major laboratory units.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and commitment to ethical laboratory practice.
- Ability to manage people, equipment, inventory, and laboratory workflow effectively.
Location: Benin City, Edo State.
Work Model: Onsite
Work Schedule: Monday – Friday (8:00AM – 5:00PM) & Saturday (8:00AM – 3:00PM)
