Livestock Category Associate
Job summary
As a Livestock Category Associate, you will manage the end to end performance of the Livestock Category, from supplier relationships to inventory, order fulfillment, and revenue growth, while building strong hatchery and producer partnerships that ensure quality supply and healthy margins.

Responsibilities:
Category Revenue and Commercial Performance:
- Achieve monthly and quarterly revenue targets assigned to the Livestock Category.
- Manage category performance within the approved commission and margin structure.
- Identify opportunities to increase category revenue, order volume, profitability, and market share.
- Develop and execute category growth initiatives.
- Monitor category performance and recommend corrective actions where targets are not being achieved.
Supplier and Vendor Management:
- Build and maintain a reliable network of high-quality livestock suppliers and vendors across key product categories, including Day Old Chicks (DOCs), fish, pigs, Point of Lay (POL) birds, livestock medicines, vaccines, and other livestock-related products.
- Develop and implement a supplier partnership framework that establishes strategic relationships with hatcheries to ensure consistent access, availability, and quality of birds.
- Scale and strengthen Afrimash's Broiler and Pullet Projects by building sustainable hatchery partnerships, improving supply reliability, and expanding customer adoption.
- Negotiate pricing, payment terms, delivery schedules, and commercial agreements with suppliers.
- Monitor supplier performance against agreed quality, availability, pricing, and delivery expectations.
- Address supplier performance issues and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
- Continuously identify and onboard qualified and premium suppliers to strengthen the livestock supplier base.
Product Availability and Inventory Management:
- Accurately forecast demand for livestock products based on historical sales, seasonality, market trends, and planned campaigns.
- Maintain adequate product availability to meet customer demand while minimizing stockouts, overstocking, and avoidable losses.
- Monitor warehouse inventory and coordinate timely replenishment.
- Develop and maintain the POL calendar to support consistent availability and planned sales.
- Identify and acquire premium farmers and customers for POL products.
- Monitor product aging, mortality, wastage, and other inventory related risks and recommend timely interventions.
Order Fulfillment and Customer Experience:
- Ensure timely and accurate fulfillment of livestock orders.
- Coordinate with suppliers, Sales, Logistics, Warehouse, and other relevant teams to resolve fulfillment issues.
- Monitor product availability, delivery timelines, product quality, and supplier compliance.
- Work with the Squad team to resolve customer inquiries and concerns relating to livestock products.
- Ensure customer complaints are promptly investigated and resolved.
- Maintain high standards of customer satisfaction and product experience.
Category Growth and Marketing Support:
- Collaborate with the Marketing team to develop and execute campaigns that increase awareness, demand, and sales within the Livestock Category.
- Provide market insights, product information, pricing intelligence, and supplier updates to support effective campaigns.
- Identify emerging livestock products, customer needs, and market opportunities.
- Develop initiatives that strengthen and increase the Afrimash brand within the livestock market.
Data Analysis and Market Intelligence:
- Analyze sales, inventory, supplier, and customer data to identify trends, gaps, and growth opportunities.
- Monitor category performance and provide actionable recommendations.
- Track product availability, pricing, order fulfillment, supplier performance, and revenue trends.
- Conduct market research to understand livestock industry trends, customer needs, competitor pricing, and supply dynamics.
- Maintain accurate category and supplier data in approved company systems.
Cross-Functional and Squad Collaboration:
- Work closely with the Livestock Squad and supporting teams to ensure seamless category operations.
- Provide timely updates on product availability, supplier issues, pricing, and market conditions.
- Support the development and implementation of category SOPs, SLAs, and operational processes.
- Ensure alignment between category plans and overall company objectives.
Reporting and Performance Tracking:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date supplier, product, inventory, and category records.
- Submit weekly category performance and supplier reports.
- Track revenue, order fulfillment, product availability, supplier performance, inventory, and category growth metrics.
- Escalate operational and supplier risks promptly.
- Provide recommendations based on category performance and market intelligence.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Animal Science, Agribusiness, or a related field.
- 2 to 4 years of experience in category management, supplier management, procurement, sales, or supply chain roles, ideally within agriculture, livestock, or e-commerce.
- Good understanding of the livestock value chain, including hatcheries, Day Old Chicks (DOCs), Point of Lay (POL) birds, fish, and pigs, is an advantage.
- Strong communication and relationship management skills, with the ability to work with suppliers and internal teams.
- Good negotiation skills and commercial awareness.
- Comfortable working with data, including sales, inventory, and supplier performance figures, and able to draw insights from them.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail, especially in inventory tracking and reporting.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Problem-solving mindset with the ability to escalate issues appropriately and follow through on resolutions.
