Job summary

We are seeking a highly experienced licensed customs broker with strong hands-on knowledge of Nigerian customs procedures and cargo-clearance operations. Someone who can independently manage customs documentation, entries, duty assessments, examinations, and cargo clearance while maintaining effective relationships with customs and stakeholders.

Job descriptions & requirements

Responsibilities:

  • Process customs declarations and entries for inbound and outbound shipments.
  • Manage customs documentation from initiation through cargo release.
  • Review tariff classifications and ensure appropriate HS Codes are applied.
  • Manage duty assessments, payments and reconciliation.
  • Coordinate cargo examinations with relevant Customs officials.
  • Attend physical cargo examinations when required.
  • Resolve customs queries, assessment issues, and documentation discrepancies.
  • Liaise with shipping lines, terminal operators, transporters, and regulatory agencies.
  • Coordinate applicable duty exemptions and regulatory approvals.
  • Track cargo-clearance timelines and proactively manage potential delays.
  • Maintain accurate documentation for all customs transactions.


Requirements:

  • A valid customs agent license/NCS registration is mandatory.
  • Minimum 3–5 years' active customs brokerage or cargo-clearance experience.
  • Strong hands-on knowledge of Lagos port operations.
  • Demonstrable experience using relevant customs processing platforms.
  • Strong knowledge of tariff classification, HS Codes, customs valuation, and duty computation.
  • Strong understanding of port and shipping documentation.
  • Existing working relationships within the port ecosystem will be an advantage.
  • Strong problem-solving and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Prepare regular customs clearance and operational reports.
  • Ensure compliance with Nigerian customs and trade regulations.
  • Minimise demurrage, penalties, and unnecessary cargo delays.
