Job summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented Legal Officer to manage legal risk, ensure regulatory compliance, and handle real estate property documentation. In this role, you will draft and review land agreements, conduct title due diligence, manage corporate compliance, and liaise with government land registries and external legal counsel.

Job descriptions & requirements

Responsibilities:

Property Documentation & Conveyancing:

  • Draft, review, and finalize real estate contracts, including Deeds of Assignment, Contracts of Sale, Leases, Joint Venture Agreements, and Power of Attorney.
  • Facilitate and oversee title perfection, land registration, and perfection of real estate instruments with state land registries.


Legal Due Diligence & Risk Management:

  • Conduct thorough legal due diligence on land acquisition opportunities, title searches at land registries, and property ownership history.
  • Identify potential legal risks in commercial transactions and structure contracts to protect company interests.


Regulatory Compliance & Corporate Governance:

  • Ensure full compliance with state and federal land laws, urban planning regulations, and corporate governance standards.
  • Manage regulatory filings, statutory permits, and maintain corporate records and board documentation.


Dispute Resolution & External Liaison:

  • Liaise with regulatory agencies, government bodies, local authorities, and external solicitors.
  • Manage dispute resolution, handle tenancy/client legal issues, and manage external litigation briefs when required.


Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) and Call to the Nigerian Bar (BL).
  • 3–5 years of post-call experience in commercial law, with a strong focus on real estate, property conveyancing, and land documentation.
  • Deep understanding of Lagos State land laws, titling procedures, and registry operations.
  • Proven skill in legal drafting, contract negotiation, and due diligence execution.
  • Strong communication, analytical thinking, and stakeholder management skills.
