Legal Officer
Job summary
The Legal Officer will draft and review contracts, provide advice on commercial and corporate matters, and ensure compliance with applicable laws. The role requires at least five years’ experience, preferably in oil and gas, maritime, or financial services, with strong contract management and risk assessment skills.

Responsibilities:
- Draft, review, and negotiate commercial contracts, service agreements, and transactional documents.
- Provide legal advisory support on corporate and commercial matters.
- Review and manage documentation relating to oil and gas operations (upstream and downstream, where applicable).
- Provide legal support on maritime-related matters, including shipping, charter parties, cargo documentation, and regulatory compliance.
- Support regulatory filings and ensure compliance with applicable laws and industry regulations.
- Conduct legal due diligence and risk assessments on transactions.
- Advise management on contractual risks and mitigation strategies.
- Liaise with external counsel, regulators, and relevant stakeholders when required.
- Maintain proper documentation and contract management records.
Requirement:
- Minimum of 5 years’ post-call experience.
- Strong experience in contract drafting and review.
- Exposure to commercial and corporate law practice.
- Experience in oil and gas (upstream or downstream) is highly preferred.
- Experience in maritime law will be an added advantage.
- Candidates without in-house oil and gas experience must have chamber experience servicing oil and gas clients, including contract drafting and transactional documentation.
- Experience in the banking or financial services sector will also be considered relevant.
- Strong analytical, negotiation, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and provide practical legal advice.
