Responsibilities:
- Provide legal advisory services on media and entertainment matters, including film, music, television, digital content, advertising, and publishing.
- Draft, review, negotiate, and manage a wide range of agreements, including: Talent and artist agreements, Production, distribution, licensing, and syndication agreements, Endorsement, sponsorship, and advertising contracts, Content acquisition and IP licensing agreements
- Advise on intellectual property rights, including copyright protection, trademarks, brand usage, and infringement matters.
- Ensure compliance with relevant regulatory frameworks, including NBC regulations, copyright laws, advertising standards, and data protection laws.
- Support dispute resolution, contract enforcement, and risk mitigation related to media and entertainment transactions.
- Guide digital media, streaming platforms, social media content, and emerging technologies as they relate to entertainment law.
- Liaise with external counsel, regulatory bodies, production partners, and creative stakeholders as required.
- Support internal stakeholders with legal risk assessments and commercial decision-making.
- Stay up to date with developments in media, entertainment, and intellectual property law within Nigeria and internationally.
Requirements:
- Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) and Barrister at Law (B.L); called to the Nigerian Bar.
- Minimum of 5-10 years post-call experience, with significant focus on Media and Entertainment Law.
- Proven experience working with media companies, production houses, record labels, talent agencies, or creative businesses.
- Strong knowledge of Nigerian copyright, intellectual property, media, and entertainment laws.
- Excellent contract drafting, negotiation, and advisory skills.
- Strong commercial judgment with the ability to balance legal risk and business objectives.
- Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple matters simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience advising on international media deals and cross-border licensing. (Preferred )
- Familiarity with streaming platforms, digital content monetisation, and influencer/creator agreements. (Preferred )
- Strong interest in the creative and entertainment industry. (Preferred )
