Legal and Policy Regulations Manager

Responsibilities:

Legal Management:

• Provide legal advice and counsel to leadership on commercial, corporate, contractual, and regulatory matters.
• Draft, review, negotiate, and manage contracts, agreements, memoranda of understanding (MOUs), and other legal documents.
• Monitor legal risks and recommend proactive mitigation measures.
• Manage disputes, litigation matters, and engagement with external legal counsel where necessary.
• Ensure protection of the organization's intellectual property, assets, and commercial interests.

Policy and Regulatory Compliance:

• Develop, review, update, and implement organizational policies, frameworks, and governance standards.
• Ensure compliance with local and international laws, regulations, and industry standards applicable to the Department of Commerce.
• Conduct compliance audits and assessments to identify potential gaps and recommend corrective actions.
• Track legislative and regulatory developments and advise management on their implications.
• Establish and maintain a compliance monitoring and reporting system.

Governance and Stakeholder Management:

• Support leadership in strengthening corporate governance practices.
• Liaise with government agencies, regulatory bodies, and other stakeholders on legal and compliance matters.
• Develop policy guidelines and training programs to improve compliance awareness across the department.
• Prepare reports, legal opinions, policy briefs, and compliance updates for executive management.

Requirements:

• Bachelor's Degree in Law (LL.B); BL qualification required.
• Master's Degree in Law, Public Policy, Corporate Governance, or a related field is an added advantage.
• Minimum of 7–10 years of progressive experience in legal practice, regulatory compliance, policy development, or corporate governance.
• Strong knowledge of corporate law, commercial law, regulatory compliance, and policy management.
• Experience in drafting legal agreements, governance frameworks, and organizational policies.
• Membership in relevant professional bodies is an advantage.
• Excellent legal research, analytical, negotiation, and communication skills.
