Health Economics Lecturer
Job summary
MCNS is seeking a suitable candidate to fill this position within our Faculty of Nursing Sciences. The Lecturer in Health Economics will be responsible for teaching and assessing the Health Economics course, equipping nursing and midwifery students with an understanding of the economic principles that shape healthcare delivery, financing, and policy.

Responsibilities:
- Plan, prepare, and deliver lectures, tutorials, and seminars in Health Economics in line with the approved curriculum.
- Develop course outlines, learning outcomes, lesson plans, and teaching materials.
- Teach core concepts such as demand and supply in healthcare, health financing, cost-benefit and cost-effectiveness analysis, and resource allocation.
- Set, administer, and grade continuous assessments, assignments, and examinations.
- Provide academic guidance, mentorship, and feedback to students.
- Relate economic theory to real-world health systems and the Nigerian healthcare context.
- Participate in curriculum review and continuous quality improvement of teaching and learning.
- Contribute to departmental meetings, student supervision, and college academic activities.
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance, performance, and progress.
- Perform other duties assigned by management from time to time.
Requirements:
- A Bachelor's degree in Health Economics, Economics, Health Systems/Policy, or a closely related field; a Master's degree (M.Sc/MPH) is strongly preferred and an advantage for appointment.
- At least 2–3 years of teaching or relevant professional experience, preferably in a tertiary or health-related institution.
- Sound knowledge of health financing, health policy, and applied economic analysis.
- Strong command of spoken and written English with effective presentation skills.
- Competence in digital learning tools (e.g., Canvas, Zoom, Microsoft Office).
- Commitment to student-centred teaching and the ICARE core values.
- Evidence of research, publication, or postgraduate study is an added advantage.
