Job descriptions & requirements

Responsibilities;

  • Support the Senior Librarian in the organisation, cataloguing, and maintenance of physical and electronic legal materials, case files, law reports, journals, statutes, and reference resources.
  • Ensure proper classification, indexing, retrieval, and secure storage of legal documents and library materials.
  • Maintain accurate tracking of file movements, circulation records, and access logs in line with internal control procedures.
  • Assist with legal research requests and support lawyers with access to relevant legal materials and references.
  • Keep abreast of legal publications, new law reports, statutory updates, and relevant legal resources to ensure the library remains current and useful.
  • Enforce compliance with internal documentation policies, confidentiality standards, and record-keeping procedures.
  • Conduct periodic audits of library holdings and filing systems to ensure accuracy, completeness, and accountability.
  • Maintain cleanliness, orderliness, and professional presentation of the library and filing areas.
  • Liaise with litigation clerks, secretaries, and relevant administrative units to support document flow and operational efficiency.
  • Support digitisation initiatives and continuous improvement of document control processes.


Requirements:

  • Minimum of OND, HND, or Bachelor’s degree in Library Science, Information Management, Records Management, or a related field.
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience in a law firm, legal library, registry, or structured administrative environment.
  • Strong organisational skills with close attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Good computer literacy, including Microsoft Office and basic document management systems.
  • Ability to conduct basic legal research and handle reference materials. 
  • High level of integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
