Job descriptions & requirements
Responsibilities:
- Assist in preparing ingredients by washing, peeling, chopping, and measuring food items.
- Support chefs and cooks during meal preparation and food service.
- Clean and sanitize kitchen equipment, utensils, workstations, and food preparation areas.
- Wash dishes, pots, pans, and kitchen utensils promptly.
- Receive, inspect, and properly store food supplies and kitchen inventory.
- Ensure proper handling and storage of food items in accordance with food safety regulations.
- Dispose of kitchen waste and maintain a clean and organized work environment.
- Replenish kitchen supplies and notify supervisors of low stock levels.
- Assist with basic food preparation and plating as directed by the chef.
- Operate kitchen equipment safely and report any faults or maintenance issues.
- Follow health, safety, and hygiene policies at all times.
- Perform other kitchen support duties as assigned by the Head Chef or Kitchen Supervisor.
Requirements:
- SSCE or equivalent qualification; a certificate in Hospitality or Food Preparation is an added advantage.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in a restaurant, hotel, catering service, or similar environment is preferred.
- Basic knowledge of food preparation and kitchen operations.
- Good understanding of food hygiene and sanitation standards.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills.
- Good organizational and time management abilities.
- Ability to follow instructions accurately and work with minimal supervision.
- Physically fit and capable of standing for extended periods and lifting light to moderate loads.
- High level of cleanliness, reliability, and attention to detail.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and public holidays.
