Job summary

The Junior Cisco Engineer is responsible for supporting the deployment, administration, monitoring, maintenance, and troubleshooting of Cisco networking and security solutions. The role assists in ensuring the availability, reliability, performance, and security of enterprise network infrastructure while developing expertise in Cisco technologies and industry best practices.

Job descriptions & requirements

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the installation, configuration, maintenance, and support of enterprise network infrastructure.
  • Support the day-to-day operation of LAN, WAN, wireless, data center, and security environments.
  • Monitor network performance, availability, and capacity using network management tools.
  • Perform routine system health checks and preventive maintenance activities.
  • Troubleshoot network connectivity, routing, switching, and wireless-related issues.
  • Escalate complex incidents and technical challenges to senior engineers when necessary.
  • Support incident, problem, and change management processes.
  • Assist with the configuration and maintenance of routers, switches, wireless solutions, and network security devices.
  • Support IP addressing, DNS, DHCP, VLAN configuration, routing, and network segmentation activities.
  • Assist with implementing network access controls and security policies.
  • Support firewall administration and access management activities.
  • Participate in security reviews, compliance checks, and vulnerability remediation initiatives.
  • Assist with network deployment, migration, upgrade, and optimization projects.
  • Support solution testing, validation, implementation, and acceptance activities.
  • Prepare and maintain project documentation, reports, network diagrams, and configuration records.
  • Document troubleshooting activities, incident resolutions, and operational changes.
  • Participate in network assessments, audits, and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Support pre-sales activities, proof-of-concept deployments, and technical demonstrations when required.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on networking, cybersecurity, cloud, data center, and infrastructure projects.
  • Participate in training programs, certification initiatives, and continuous learning activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support business objectives and operational requirements.


Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 1–3 years of experience in networking, IT infrastructure, or technical support environments.
  • Internship, academic project, or practical experience involving networking technologies is desirable.
  • Exposure to enterprise network environments is an added advantage.
  • Basic understanding of networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, routing and switching, VLANs, DNS, DHCP, NAT, VPNs, and related technologies.
  • Familiarity with enterprise networking equipment and infrastructure solutions.
  • Basic understanding of network security concepts, access control, firewall technologies, and cybersecurity principles.
  • Basic knowledge of Windows and Linux operating systems.
  • Familiarity with network monitoring and management tools.
  • Basic understanding of virtualization technologies.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and within a team environment.
  • Customer-focused mindset with strong service orientation.
  • Willingness to learn, adapt, and develop new technical skills.
  • Good documentation, reporting, and organizational skills.


Preferred Requirements:

  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification.
  • Any other relevant networking, cybersecurity, cloud, infrastructure, or technology certification will be an added advantage.
