Junior Accountant
Job summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and professionally competent junior accountant to manage the organization's accounting operations, financial records, reporting, reconciliations, controls and statutory financial obligations. Responsibilities:
- Maintain accurate and complete books of accounts and accounting records.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports.
- Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable.
- Prepare invoices, payment schedules, receipts, and supporting financial documentation.
- Perform bank, supplier, customer, and general ledger reconciliations.
- Monitor cash flow, income, and expenditure.
- Prepare budgets, forecasts, and variance analysis.
- Monitor actual expenditure against approved budgets.
- Maintain accurate general ledger postings and supporting schedules.
- Assist with payroll-related accounting activities.
- Support tax computations, filings, and statutory financial obligations.
- Liaise with auditors, tax consultants, financial institutions, and regulatory bodies when required.
- Maintain proper documentation for audit purposes.
- Strengthen internal financial controls and identify financial control weaknesses.
- Investigate discrepancies and implement corrective measures.
- Monitor financial transactions for accuracy, completeness and compliance.
- Provide management with financial analysis and recommendations.
- Ensure proper application of accounting policies and procedures.
- Support annual audit and financial review processes.
- Maintain confidentiality and integrity of financial information.
Requirements:
- A minimum of a diploma in accounting, finance, economics, or a related discipline.
- A minimum 2–5 years' relevant accounting experience depending on level.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting.
- Working knowledge of Nigerian tax and statutory requirements.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software such as Sage, QuickBooks, Odoo, SAP or similar platforms.
- Strong numerical, analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- High level of integrity and financial confidentiality.
