A leading luxury retail company based in Lekki, Lagos, is seeking an experienced and results-driven Inventory Manager to join its operations team. Responsibilities:
Inventory Strategy & Planning:
- Develop and implement inventory management strategies that align with the company's business objectives and luxury retail standards.
- Maintain optimal inventory levels across all locations to ensure product availability while minimizing excess stock and unnecessary holding costs.
- Monitor slow-moving, obsolete, and dead stock and recommend practical strategies for liquidation, redeployment, or optimization.
- Support sales and procurement forecasting by providing accurate inventory data and trend analysis.
Stock Monitoring & Replenishment:
- Monitor stock movement, replenishment cycles, and inventory turnover across all retail outlets and warehouses on a continuous basis.
- Manage inventory transfers between stores and warehouses to support sales performance and operational requirements.
- Ensure that replenishment processes are timely, accurate, and aligned with sales velocity and seasonal demand patterns.
- Liaise with the Procurement team to flag critical stock shortfalls and ensure timely reordering.
Inventory Audits & Accuracy:
- Conduct regular inventory audits, stock counts, cycle counts, and reconciliations across all locations to ensure inventory accuracy at all times.
- Investigate inventory discrepancies, stock losses, damages, and variances — identify root causes and implement effective corrective actions.
- Ensure accurate inventory records are maintained within the ERP system at all times, with zero tolerance for data integrity failures.
- Support internal and external audit processes and ensure full compliance with company inventory policies and operational standards.
Reporting & Data Analysis:
- Generate, analyze, and present inventory reports to support management decision-making, forecasting, and strategic planning.
- Track and report on key inventory metrics including turnover rates, fill rates, stock accuracy, shrinkage, and holding costs.
- Identify trends, risks, and opportunities within inventory data and proactively communicate findings to senior management.
- Ensure all inventory reporting is accurate, timely, and produced in a format that enables clear business decisions.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Collaborate closely with the Procurement, Sales, Logistics, Finance, and Store Operations teams to ensure effective and aligned inventory planning.
- Serve as the central point of coordination for all inventory-related matters across departments.
- Support the Finance team in inventory valuation, cost analysis, and stock provision calculations.
- Work with the Logistics team to ensure that inbound and outbound stock movements are accurately recorded and efficiently executed.
Inventory Control & Loss Prevention
- Establish, document, and enforce inventory control procedures and internal controls to minimize stock losses, theft, and shrinkage.
- Implement robust processes for the receipt, handling, storage, and dispatch of all inventory items.
- Monitor and investigate any patterns of recurring stock loss or discrepancy and escalate findings appropriately.
- Ensure that all warehouse and store teams understand and comply with inventory control standards.
ERP Systems & Technology:
- Ensure the accurate and timely entry of all inventory transactions into the ERP system.
- Maintain data integrity across all inventory-related modules and proactively identify and resolve any system discrepancies.
- Work with IT or system administrators to optimize ERP inventory settings and reporting configurations.
- Champion the adoption of digital tools and technology improvements that can enhance inventory visibility and accuracy.
Team Leadership & Development:
- Lead, manage, and develop the inventory team; set clear expectations, provide regular feedback, and foster a culture of accountability and excellence.
- Conduct performance reviews, identify training needs, and invest in the professional development of team members.
- Ensure adequate staffing and resource allocation to meet inventory operations requirements, particularly during peak periods.
- Create a team environment where problems are identified and solved quickly, and where every team member takes ownership of their responsibilities.
Process Improvement & Operational Excellence:
- Continuously identify opportunities to improve inventory processes, reduce waste, and increase operational efficiency.
- Lead and implement process improvement initiatives, documenting new procedures and training the team accordingly.
- Benchmark inventory performance against industry standards and best practices, and contribute to the development of the company's broader operational excellence agenda.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, Accounting, Statistics, or a related field.
- Professional certifications such as CPIM (Certified in Production and Inventory Management), CSCP (Certified Supply Chain Professional), or equivalent are a strong added advantage.
- Minimum of 5 years' experience in Inventory Management, Warehouse Operations, Supply Chain Management, or Retail Operations.
- At least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial capacity with direct responsibility for a team.
- Proven experience working within a retail, luxury retail, FMCG, manufacturing, or distribution environment.
- Demonstrated track record of improving inventory accuracy, reducing stock losses, and optimizing inventory investment.
- Strong knowledge of inventory control principles, stock management methodologies, demand forecasting, and inventory optimization techniques.
- Proficiency in ERP systems (e.g. Odoo) and inventory management software.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills — including pivot tables, data modelling, and dashboard creation.
- Ability to analyze large datasets, extract meaningful insights, and present findings clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Excellent leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills; able to drive performance through people, processes, and data.
- Strong attention to detail with a high level of accuracy; this role demands someone who does not accept approximations or shortcuts.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities simultaneously without compromising quality or accuracy.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills; able to work effectively across departments and at all levels of the organization.
- High integrity and personal accountability: the Inventory Manager is the custodian of a significant business asset and must be above reproach.
