Malteser International has been working in Nigeria since 2017. In Northeast Nigeria and more specifically in Borno State, MI is currently active in the WASH sector for improving the lives of both the IDP population as well as the host communities. The WASH activities focus on improved access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene. They include NFI distribution, solarization of boreholes, rehabilitation of hand pumps, construction of latrines and hygiene promotion. Malteser International thereby applies a participatory, gender-sensitive and inclusive approach.

For its work in Pulka Gwoza Local Government of Borno State, Nigeria, Malteser International is looking for a qualified Hygiene Promotion Officer â National Position.

Under the direct supervision of the Area Coordinator Pulka, the Hygiene Promotion Officer will be responsible for the overall participation in the planning and implementation of all hygiene promotion activities, collecting data, and developing reports as well as building relationships with local partners and communities.

The Hygiene promotion officer ensures the implementation of all project activities as well as compliance with Malteser International and donor guidelines. Furthermore, the Hygiene Promotion Officer is responsible for ensuring close coordination of daily hygiene promotion activities such as house-to-house and group sessions, campaigns, community mobilization, and meetings with community leaders and hygiene promotion volunteers. 

Your responsibilities:

Plan, organize, and coordinate weekly hygiene promotion activities from a monthly plan Identify, select, and assist in training hygiene promotion volunteers using different approaches (CHAST and PHAST) Assist in planning, coordinating, and conducting campaigns, focus group discussions, and hygiene global events, as well as house-to-house visits to monitor hygiene practices Formulate a child hygiene club under Children Hygiene and Sanitation Training (CHAST) with volunteers and conduct CHAST sessions Assist in the implementation of participatory hygiene and sanitation approaches such as Community Led Total Sanitation (CLTS) Assist in the selection of beneficiaries and distribution of hygiene/dignity kits to beneficiaries document all hygiene promotion activities and establish a good filling system Ensure gender mainstreaming during the implementation of any hygiene promotion activities and develop a database to track hygiene promotion data and input the data every week

Your profile:

Minimum of BSc or National Diploma Certificate related to hygiene promotion courses with at least 2 yearsâ experience working as a hygiene promotion or public health promotion worker Experience working in an international organization Good command of English language and local dialects in the context of Pulka is highly desirable Previous experience working in complex and volatile contexts, and ability to work under pressure Proven integrity and good character and good knowledge of local context and preferably residing in the position location
