HSE Officer
Job summary
We are seeking a responsible, proactive, and detail-oriented HSE Officer to support the implementation and maintenance of high standards of Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) practices across our operations. The ideal candidate will have hands-on HSE experience within the Oil & Gas industry, a strong understanding of workplace safety procedure
Job descriptions & requirements
Responsibilities:
- Implement and monitor Health, Safety, and Environmental policies and procedures across operational sites.
- Conduct regular workplace inspections, safety audits, and risk assessments.
- Identify potential hazards and recommend appropriate corrective and preventive measures.
- Ensure compliance with applicable HSE regulations, company policies, and Oil & Gas industry standards.
- Monitor the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and enforce safe working practices.
- Conduct toolbox talks, safety briefings, inductions, and HSE awareness training for employees and contractors.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions and prepare detailed reports.
- Maintain accurate HSE records, inspection reports, incident logs, and compliance documentation.
- Support emergency preparedness and response activities, including emergency drills and evacuation procedures.
- Monitor contractors and third-party personnel to ensure compliance with established HSE requirements.
- Assist in developing and reviewing Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), Risk Assessments, and Method Statements.
- Promote a strong safety culture and proactively address unsafe practices and conditions.
- Prepare regular HSE performance reports and escalate significant risks or incidents to management.
- Stay updated on relevant HSE legislation, regulations, standards, and best practices within the Oil & Gas sector.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree or HND in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- 2–3 years of relevant HSE experience, preferably within the Oil & Gas industry.
- Relevant HSE certifications such as NEBOSH, IOSH, OSHA, or equivalent are highly desirable.
- Good knowledge of Nigerian HSE regulations and Oil & Gas industry safety standards.
- Practical experience conducting risk assessments, safety inspections, incident investigations, and toolbox talks.
- Strong documentation, reporting, and analytical skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively with employees, contractors, and other stakeholders.
- Strong attention to detail and a proactive approach to identifying and mitigating safety risks.
- Ability to work effectively in operational/site environments and respond appropriately to safety concerns.
