Job summary
We are seeking a skilled Heavy-Duty Mechanical Technician to join our team in Lagos, Nigeria. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering timely, professional, and effective technical service on material handling equipment, with a strong focus on mechanical, hydraulic, and diesel engine systems.

Responsibilities:
Technical Maintenance & Diagnostics:
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on the mechanical systems of Material Handling Equipment (MHE).
- Diagnose and repair faults in diesel engines, transmissions, drive axles, brake systems, mast and lift assemblies, and hydraulic components.
- Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic systems, including pumps, cylinders, valves, and hoses.
- Carry out engine overhauls, including dismantling, rebuilding, and reassembly of engine components (pistons, crankshafts, injection systems, turbochargers).
- Interpret mechanical and hydraulic schematics, technical manuals, and OEM documentation.
- Identify root causes of recurring mechanical faults and implement permanent corrective actions.
Installation, Commissioning & Field Support:
- Install mechanical components and assemblies on new or refurbished equipment.
- Carry out inspections on client Hyster equipment in line with manufacturer guidelines.
- Provide direct technical support to clients through troubleshooting and technical advice — remotely or on-site.
Documentation & Reporting:
- Complete maintenance reports, fault history, and parts-replacement records accurately and promptly.
- Prepare and assist with documentation, timesheets, work orders, and inspection records.
- Develop and offer spare parts recommendations to the employer and clients.
Customer & Team Engagement:
- Comply with mechanical and workshop safety standards and procedures.
- Follow Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) protocols before commencing any work.
- Comply with OH&S policies and procedures in accordance with applicable law.
Requirements:
- Minimum of 3 years practical experience in commissioning, maintenance, fault diagnosis, and repair within the material handling industry.
- Proven experience troubleshooting and repairing diesel, LPG, and petrol-powered engines on warehouse equipment and heavy-duty trucks.
- Proven experience troubleshooting and repairing forklifts, reach stackers, empty container handlers, VNA (very narrow aisle) trucks, and general warehouse equipment.
- Hands-on experience with hydraulic systems, transmissions, and drive-train components.
- Hyster training programs and certification (e.g., Hyster OEM technical processes) are an advantage.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical and hydraulic schematic drawings.
- Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills on hydraulic and mechanical systems.
- Proficiency in diagnosis and repair of diesel engines, transmissions, and drive systems.
- Intermediate Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Excellent customer relationship management skills.
- Strong time management and administrative skills.
- People management and development skills.
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
- Mechanical Engineering Technician qualification (ND or equivalent).
- Formal high school or degree-level education required.
- Technical Trade Test Certificate II and/or III.
- Multi-skilled engineering background with hands-on experience on heavy plant equipment and hydraulic systems.
