Job summary
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Heavy-Duty Mechanic to inspect, diagnose, repair, and maintain heavy-duty vehicles and equipment. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring trucks, trailers, construction equipment, and other heavy machinery remain safe, reliable, and operational while minimizing breakdowns and downtime.

Responsibilities:
- Inspect and diagnose mechanical faults in heavy-duty trucks, trailers, and machinery.
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on diesel-powered vehicles and equipment.
- Repair and maintain engines, transmissions, differentials, axles, braking systems, suspension systems, and steering components.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and basic electrical faults.
- Carry out routine servicing, including oil changes, filter replacement, lubrication, and fluid checks.
- Use diagnostic tools and mechanical testing equipment to identify faults accurately.
- Dismantle, repair, replace, and reassemble defective mechanical components.
- Conduct pre- and post-repair inspections to ensure vehicles and equipment are safe for operation.
- Respond promptly to vehicle and equipment breakdowns and carry out necessary repairs.
- Monitor the condition of vehicles and recommend replacement of worn or damaged parts.
- Maintain accurate records of repairs, servicing, parts used, and maintenance activities.
- Work with drivers and equipment operators to identify and resolve reported mechanical problems.
- Maintain proper use, storage, and care of workshop tools and equipment.
- Ensure all repairs and maintenance activities comply with workplace health and safety procedures.
- Support the maintenance team in reducing equipment downtime and improving fleet reliability.
Requirements:
- Minimum of OND, Technical Certificate, Trade Test Certificate, or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Automobile Engineering, or a related field.
- Proven Years Of experience as a Heavy-Duty Mechanic or Diesel Mechanic.
- Strong experience working on heavy-duty trucks, trailers, buses, construction equipment, or industrial machinery.
- Good knowledge of diesel engines, transmissions, braking systems, suspension, steering, hydraulics, and vehicle electrical systems.
- Ability to use diagnostic equipment and standard workshop tools.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and technical manuals.
- Good knowledge of preventive maintenance procedures.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a maintenance team.
- Physically fit and able to work in a demanding workshop environment.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.
- Experience with specific truck brands or heavy equipment is an added advantage.
