Heavy-Duty Mechanic

Responsibilities:

• Inspect and diagnose mechanical faults in heavy-duty trucks, trailers, and machinery.
• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on diesel-powered vehicles and equipment.
• Repair and maintain engines, transmissions, differentials, axles, braking systems, suspension systems, and steering components.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and basic electrical faults.
• Carry out routine servicing, including oil changes, filter replacement, lubrication, and fluid checks.
• Use diagnostic tools and mechanical testing equipment to identify faults accurately.
• Dismantle, repair, replace, and reassemble defective mechanical components.
• Conduct pre- and post-repair inspections to ensure vehicles and equipment are safe for operation.
• Respond promptly to vehicle and equipment breakdowns and carry out necessary repairs.
• Monitor the condition of vehicles and recommend replacement of worn or damaged parts.
• Maintain accurate records of repairs, servicing, parts used, and maintenance activities.
• Work with drivers and equipment operators to identify and resolve reported mechanical problems.
• Maintain proper use, storage, and care of workshop tools and equipment.
• Ensure all repairs and maintenance activities comply with workplace health and safety procedures.
• Support the maintenance team in reducing equipment downtime and improving fleet reliability.

Requirements:

• Minimum of OND, Technical Certificate, Trade Test Certificate, or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Automobile Engineering, or a related field.
  
• Proven Years Of experience as a Heavy-Duty Mechanic or Diesel Mechanic.
• Strong experience working on heavy-duty trucks, trailers, buses, construction equipment, or industrial machinery.
• Good knowledge of diesel engines, transmissions, braking systems, suspension, steering, hydraulics, and vehicle electrical systems.
• Ability to use diagnostic equipment and standard workshop tools.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and technical manuals.
• Good knowledge of preventive maintenance procedures.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a maintenance team.
• Physically fit and able to work in a demanding workshop environment.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.
• Experience with specific truck brands or heavy equipment is an added advantage.
