Job summary

The Head of Maintenance and Engineering provides strategic and technical leadership in the management of all engineering and maintenance operations for the card manufacturing and personalization plant. The role is pivotal in ensuring optimal equipment performance, utility reliability, infrastructure integrity, and compliance with safety and regulations

Job descriptions & requirements

Responsibilities:

Strategic Planning

  • Develop and implement short-, medium-, and long-term engineering and maintenance strategies aligned with production objectives and business growth.
  • Plan asset lifecycle strategies covering acquisition, commissioning, maintenance, upgrades, and decommissioning.
  • Define and track performance metrics on equipment uptime to drive decision-making.
  • Lead engineering input into business continuity planning, disaster recovery, and utility risk mitigation in line with Nigeria’s infrastructural realities.
  • Contribute to facility expansion, technology integration, and infrastructure modernization projects.
  • Track energy, fuel, and maintenance cost trends to inform strategic business decisions.


Operational Management

  • Ensure the optimal operation and maintenance of all plant machinery, including card printers, laminators, embossers, punching machines, mailing systems, and personalization equipment.
  • Supervise the efficient running and extensive maintenance of diesel generators, UPS systems, inverters, and electrical distribution boards.
  • Oversee utility systems: HVAC (precision and comfort cooling), compressed air systems, plumbing, water supply, and borehole operations.
  • Manage a robust preventive maintenance program (PMP) and enforce corrective action tracking.
  • Maintain high equipment availability through timely diagnostics, troubleshooting, repairs, and OEM-standard servicing.
  • Prepare operational reports including equipment status, maintenance KPIs, incident logs, and energy usage.


Team Leadership

  • Lead and mentor a multidisciplinary team of engineers, technicians, electricians, and support staff.
  • Drive a performance culture through clear goal setting, accountability, technical training, and continuous development.
  • Establish and monitor shift structures, task allocation, and maintenance schedules to support 24/7 operations as needed.\
  • Promote cross-functional collaboration with production, quality, IT, security, and logistics teams to achieve shared goals.
  • Foster a proactive, ownership-driven maintenance culture. 



Safety and Compliance

  • Implement engineering controls for workplace safety.
  • Support internal and external audits (e.g., ISO 9001, ISO 27001, PCI DSS) with accurate engineering documentation.
  • Conduct regular facility and utility inspections and risk assessments.
  • Drive compliance with energy conservation, noise/vibration control, environmental management, and generator exhaust emission guidelines.
  • Lead emergency preparedness for power failures, equipment breakdowns, and critical incidents. 




Vendor and Contractor Management

  • Manage relationships with equipment OEMs, generator technicians, HVAC service providers, utility suppliers, and civil contractors.
  • Evaluate and select vendors for repairs, parts procurement, facility projects, and equipment servicing.
  • Define and enforce service level agreements (SLAs), turnaround time, and quality benchmarks.
  • Oversee installation and commissioning projects with a focus on scope control, safety, and handover documentation.
  • Ensure vendor compliance with internal policies, access control, and safety protocols during on-site interventions.


Financial and Resource Management

  • Develop and manage the engineering and maintenance budget, covering CAPEX, OPEX, fuel, spare parts, contracts, and tools.
  • Monitor fuel consumption, generator efficiency, spare usage, and repair costs to identify savings opportunities.
  • Conduct cost-benefit analysis for maintenance vs. replacement decisions.
  • Ensure optimal inventory levels of critical spares, lubricants, filters, tools, and utilities.
  • Support procurement planning with timely technical specifications, vendor sourcing, and stock forecasting.


Requirements:

  • Minimum of 20 years of experience
  • Minimum of an HND
