Job summary
Our client in the microfinance sector is seeking a highly experienced and strategic professional to lead its audit, internal control, and compliance functions. The successful candidate will be responsible for strengthening the bank’s internal control systems, ensuring regulatory compliance, managing audit processes, and mitigating risk.

Responsibilities:
Internal Audit Management:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive internal audit strategy and annual audit plan.
- Conduct periodic audits across all departments (operations, finance, credit, IT, etc.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of internal controls and risk management systems.
- Prepare audit reports and present findings to executive management and the Board Audit Committee.
- Follow up on audit findings and ensure timely resolution of identified issues.
Internal Control Systems:
- Design, implement, and continuously improve internal control frameworks.
- Monitor adherence to policies, procedures, and operational guidelines.
- Identify control gaps and recommend corrective actions.
- Ensure segregation of duties and accountability across processes.
- Drive a culture of compliance and control consciousness within the bank.
Compliance & Regulatory Oversight:
- Ensure full compliance with regulatory requirements, including CBN guidelines and NDPR.
- Monitor regulatory updates and advise management on implications.
- Liaise with regulators, external auditors, and compliance bodies.
- Ensure timely and accurate regulatory reporting.
- Develop and implement compliance policies and procedures.
Risk Management:
- Identify, assess, and mitigate financial, operational, and compliance risks
- Develop and maintain a risk management framework
- Conduct risk assessments and stress testing exercises
- Advise management on risk exposure and mitigation strategies.
Fraud Prevention & Investigation:
- Develop and implement fraud prevention mechanisms
- Investigate suspected fraud cases and report findings
- Recommend disciplinary and control measures to prevent recurrence.
Governance & Reporting:
- Support Board Audit Committee activities
- Prepare periodic reports on audit, risk, and compliance status
- Maintain proper documentation of audit and compliance activities
- Ensure transparency and accountability in all processes
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
- Mandatory professional certification: ICAN (Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria)
- A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in audit, internal control, or compliance
- At least 3 years in a leadership or managerial role
- Strong knowledge of microfinance or banking operations
- In-depth understanding of regulatory frameworks (CBN, NDPR, etc.)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Additional certifications (e.g., ACCA, CIA, CISA)
- Experience in a microfinance bank or financial Institution
- Strong knowledge of enterprise risk management frameworks
- Experience working with audit software and data analytics tools
