Our client seeks an experienced finance & accounts manager to lead financial reporting, budgeting, cash flow, controls and statutory compliance. The role will provide management with reliable financial insight, strengthen financial discipline, manage working capital and support profitable business decisions.

Job descriptions & requirements

Key Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting & Management Information:

  • Lead the preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual management accounts.
  • Ensure financial reports accurately reflect the organisation's performance and financial position.
  • Prepare management dashboards and financial analysis for decision-making.
  • Provide management with insights on revenue, costs, margins, working capital, and profitability.
  • Analyse financial performance against budgets and forecasts and explain significant variances.
  • Support management with financial modeling and business-performance analysis.


Budgeting & Financial Planning:

  • Coordinate the annual budgeting and periodic forecasting processes.
  • Work with department heads to develop realistic operational budgets.
  • Monitor expenditure against approved budgets.
  • Identify financial risks, cost pressures, and opportunities for improved profitability.
  • Support business planning and investment decisions with appropriate financial analysis.


Cash Flow & Working Capital:

  • Monitor and manage organizational cash flow.
  • Prepare cash-flow forecasts and advise management on liquidity requirements.
  • Maintain oversight of accounts receivable and accounts payable.
  • Drive timely invoicing and collection of outstanding receivables.
  • Monitor customer balances, ageing reports and credit exposure.
  • Manage vendor-payment schedules while protecting organisational cash flow.
  • Maintain effective banking relationships and oversee bank reconciliations.


Financial Controls:

  • Establish and maintain strong internal financial controls.
  • Review financial transactions and ensure appropriate approvals and supporting documentation.
  • Strengthen controls around expenditure, procurement, payments, and revenue recognition.
  • Maintain accurate general ledger records.
  • Ensure reconciliations are completed accurately and on schedule.
  • Maintain appropriate controls over fixed assets and other company resources.
  • Investigate financial discrepancies and implement corrective actions.


Tax, Audit & Statutory Compliance:

  • Ensure compliance with applicable Nigerian tax and financial-reporting requirements.
  • Coordinate VAT, PAYE, withholding tax and other statutory obligations.
  • Liaise with external auditors, tax consultants, banks and relevant regulatory bodies.
  • Coordinate annual audit requirements and ensure requested schedules and documentation are available.
  • Maintain appropriate financial records and documentation for statutory and audit purpose.


Commercial & Business Partnership

  • Partner with management and operational teams on the financial implications of business decisions.
  • Analyse customer, service, contract, and operational profitability.
  • Identify cost leakages and opportunities for improved financial efficiency.
  • Provide commercial insight on pricing, margins, and operating costs.
  • Challenge expenditure or business decisions where financial value is unclear.
  • Support management in building stronger financial discipline across the organization.


Team Leadership:

  • Supervise and develop members of the Finance and Accounts team.
  • Establish clear responsibilities, controls, and performance expectations.
  • Improve the accuracy and efficiency of finance processes.
  • Promote accountability, confidentiality, and professional standards within the function.


Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 8 years of progressive accounting and finance experience, with meaningful supervisory or management responsibility.
  • Professional qualifications such as ACA, ICAN, or equivalent are strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of financial reporting and management accounting.
  • Strong budgeting, forecasting, and cash-flow-management capability.
  • Demonstrable experience managing receivables, payables, and working capital.
  • Sound understanding of Nigerian tax and statutory requirements.
  • Strong Excel and accounting/ERP-system proficiency.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • High level of financial integrity and attention to detail.
  • Experience within logistics, freight, supply chain, oil & gas services, or another transaction-intensive business would be a significant advantage.
