Job Title: Service Engineer
Department: Field Operations Team (FOT)
Location: Kogi, Nigeria (Field-Based)
Reports To: Remote Operations Centre (ROC) – Operational Oversight
Job Purpose
To act as the senior technical authority for field operations in Nigeria, providing expert-level fault resolution, commissioning oversight, and strategic leadership to Site Technicians. This role ensures the reliability, performance, and rapid recovery of mini-grid assets across the operational portfolio.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Fault Resolution
- Serve as the primary engineering point of contact for complex fault diagnosis, resolution, and commissioning activities across all mini-grid sites.
- Triage and respond to escalated tickets for medium-severity incidents, and lead the technical response for critical/major faults in strict adherence to defined Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
- Within 24 hours of fault detection, verify warranty eligibility via Odoo asset records; coordinate pre-expiry inspections and drive warranty claims to timely completion.
Operational Excellence & Process Control
- Review and approve technical specifications for spare parts prior to procurement, ensuring quality and compatibility.
- Lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for recurring faults, delivering actionable reports within 72 hours to prevent future occurrences.
- Oversee the technical performance and daily activities of Site Technicians, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and best practices.
Customer & Stakeholder Engagement
- Provide on-site technical support during customer onboarding and act as a senior mediator for complex dispute resolution.
- Assume full ownership of field operations during the interim transition period (Months 1–6), ensuring seamless service continuity.
Qualifications & Experience
- Education: Bachelor’s degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, or a closely related discipline.
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years of hands-on field experience in Solar PV, mini-grid systems, or power distribution Operations & Maintenance (O&M).
Skills & Competencies
- Technical Proficiency: Advanced diagnostic and fault-resolution skills across inverters, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), and Medium/Low Voltage (MV/LV) equipment.
- Operational Agility: Ability to work independently in remote and challenging field conditions, demonstrating strong problem-solving under pressure.
- Communication: Professional and calm demeanor during high-stakes phone-based escalations; adept at translating complex technical issues for non-technical stakeholders.
- Leadership: Proven capability to supervise, mentor, and coordinate field teams to deliver high-quality service outcomes.
Key Working Relationships
- Remote Operations Centre (ROC): Daily operational coordination and incident reporting.
- Site Technicians: Direct supervision, task delegation, and technical mentorship.
- Engineering/Design Team: Collaboration on Root Cause Analysis and system improvements.
- Country Manager: Escalation of outages exceeding 4 hours and strategic operational updates.
