Job Summary
The Credit Officer is responsible for identifying, assessing, and managing credit opportunities within the MFI’s operational area. The role involves mobilizing clients, evaluating loan applications, monitoring loan performance, and ensuring timely repayment while maintaining portfolio quality and client satisfaction.

Job Description/Requirements
Responsibilities:
- Promote and market the institution’s loan products to potential clients.
- Conduct community outreach and group formation where applicable.
- Educate clients on loan procedures, requirements, and repayment terms.
- Collect and verify client information and business details.
- Conduct field visits and evaluate clients’ business capacity and creditworthiness.
- Prepare accurate loan appraisal reports and make recommendations to the credit committee.
- Ensure proper documentation of loan applications and agreements.
- Facilitate loan disbursement in compliance with MFI policies and procedures.
- Maintain up-to-date records of client loan files.
- Regularly visit clients to monitor business performance and repayment progress.
- Track and follow up on due and overdue loans to ensure timely repayment.
- Implement recovery strategies for delinquent loans and maintain portfolio at risk within acceptable limits.
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly reports on loan activities and performance.
- Update client records and ensure data accuracy in the credit management system.
- Provide feedback and insights to management on market trends and client needs.
- Maintain good relationships with clients through continuous engagement.
- Handle client inquiries and complaints professionally.
- Promote financial literacy and responsible borrowing among clients.
Requirements:
- Minimum of OND / HND / B.Sc. in Business Administration, Banking & Finance, Economics, or related fields.
- 1–3 years’ experience in credit operations, preferably in a Microfinance Institution.
- Good analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office and basic loan management software.
- Ability to work independently and meet targets.
- Strong fieldwork orientation and familiarity with the local business environment.
