FEP Engineer
Job summary
A reputable Microfinance Bank located in Maryland, Lagos is seeking a highly skilled and experienced FEP Engineer (Front-End Processor/Switch) to manage the high-availability and security of the bank’s mission-critical transaction switch (FEP).

Responsibilities:
- Administer and monitor the bank’s transaction switch and its integrations with major payment systems (NIBSS, Interswitch, UPG, MPGS).
- Configure, manage, and troubleshoot ISO-8583 message flows, routing rules, and switching logic.
- Manage cryptographic keys, digital certificates, and security modules (HSM/MLE, 3-DES, RSA) to ensure regulatory compliance and data security.
- Conduct performance tuning, system optimization, and capacity planning.
- Provide prompt incident response and resolution for transaction-related issues.
- Deliver L2/L3 technical support for daily payment operations, settlements, and reconciliation processes.
- Monitor logs and observability tools to proactively detect and resolve issues.
- Ensure system uptime, resilience, and regulatory compliance at all times.
- Transaction Success & Availability: End-to-End Transaction Success Rate (TSR) & Switch Uptime: >99.99%
- Incident Management: Mean Time to Resolve (MTTR) for critical payment incidents: <15 minutes
- Security: Zero security breaches related to cryptographic keys, HSM, or unauthorized system access.
- Bachelor’s Degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) from a recognized institution.
- Relevant IT certifications will be an added advantage.
- 4–6+ years of hands-on experience in full-stack development and transaction switching environments.
- Prior experience in banking, fintech, or other financial services institutions is highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of ISO-8583 protocol and EFT switch architecture.
- Knowledge of transaction routing, payment processing lifecycle, and settlement processes.
- Understanding of regulatory compliance in financial transaction systems.
- Linux/Unix administration.
- Shell scripting.
- Incident response and troubleshooting.
- Log monitoring and observability tools.
- Experience with Java, Kotlin, or .NET (added advantage).
- Cryptography and key management systems (HSM, 3-DES, RSA).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
