Job descriptions & requirements
- Interpret sketches, reference images, client briefs, and measurement sheets into well-constructed women’s garments.
- Draft, adapt, and cut patterns for corsets, fitted dresses, gowns, two-piece sets, bridal or occasion wear, and other creative pieces.
- Construct structured bodices using appropriate boning, cups, interfacing, lining, lacing, zips, and supportive finishing techniques.
- Take accurate body measurements and conduct fittings professionally, respectfully, and privately.
- Adjust patterns and garments to achieve correct balance, support, comfort, proportion, and fit for different body types.
- Advise on silhouette, fabric, colour, embellishment, and styling choices that suit the client and design direction.
- Sew, assemble, alter, and finish garments neatly, including clean seams, hems, closures, lining, hand finishing, and embellishment placement.
- Prepare samples or toiles where required and identify construction risks before cutting final fabric.
- Manage assigned production schedules, prioritise urgent orders responsibly, and communicate early when a deadline or specification is at risk.
- Minimise fabric waste, protect client materials, and maintain accurate labels and order identification throughout production.
- Conduct quality checks before fittings and final delivery, correcting fit or finishing issues promptly.
- Maintain sewing machines, tools, patterns, cutting areas, and workstation cleanliness.
- Collaborate with the creative designer and production team to refine new styles and improve repeatable construction methods.
Requirements:
- Demonstrable experience making corsets and women’s creative or occasion wear; a portfolio or practical test will be required.
- Strong pattern drafting, cutting, sewing, fitting, alteration, and finishing ability.
- Sound knowledge of boning, cups, interlining, fabric behaviour, stretch, grainline, seam allowance, and garment support.
- Ability to work from sketches and reference images while maintaining accuracy and originality.
