Job summary
The Equipment Mate will provide technical support to the Equipment Operator, Mechanical Fitter, and Maintenance Engineer. The role is responsible for ensuring optimal equipment readiness, operational safety, cleanliness, and availability through systematic pre-operational checks, preventive maintenance support, and accurate documentation.

Responsibilities:
Daily Operational Schedule: Pre-Start Operations & Inspection (06:30hrs – 08:00hrs)
- Attend daily toolbox talk (TBT) and Job Hazard Analysis (JHA).
- Conduct pre-start inspection: check fluid levels (fuel, engine oil, coolant, hydraulic oil), tyre/track tension, leakages, and abnormal noise/vibration.
- Perform routine servicing: air filter cleaning, lubrication and greasing of moving parts as per lubrication chart.
- Document and record equipment hour-meter readings and initial running condition.
Operations & Maintenance Support (08:00hrs – 16:00hrs):
- Assist in material handling, equipment positioning, and rigging operations as instructed.
- Provide tool support and material staging for fitters/operators during maintenance and repair activities.
- Assist in dismantling, installation, and alignment of mechanical components: gearboxes, drive shafts, bearings, belt drives, and coupling assemblies.
- Monitor equipment deployment, movement, and utilization across site.
- Ensure compliance with Site-keeping and HSE regulations to maintain a safe and organized work area.
Close-Out & Reporting (16:00hrs – 17:30hrs):
- Perform post-operation cleaning, de-scaling, and preservation of tools and equipment.
- Wash down the plant, park in the designated bay, and apply the parking brake and wheel chocks.
- Record closing hour-meter readings, fuel consumption, lubricant usage, and operational anomalies.
- Generate defect/non-conformance report (NCR) and escalate malfunctioning equipment to supervisor for corrective action.
- Secure and lock the tool crib and equipment yard.
Periodic Maintenance Schedule:
Weekly Tasks:
- Detailed equipment wash-down and undercarriage cleaning.
- Spare parts inventory, stock-taking, and material requisition.
- Support planned preventive maintenance (PPM) activities.
Monthly Tasks:
- Participate in scheduled preventive and predictive maintenance programs.
- Assist in tracking equipment service intervals, maintenance history, and calibration records.
As Required:
- Provide support for overhaul, troubleshooting, and breakdown maintenance on rotating and stationary equipment.
- Perform general engineering support duties as assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor.
Requirements:
- Minimum qualification of an SSCE
- 2 years of previous experience in a similar role
Standard Work Schedule:
The work schedule is site-dependent but typically follows industry-standard rotations.
- Construction / Quarry / Fleet Yard Operations: Monday to Saturday, 07:30hrs – 17:00hrs (8–10 hours per day).
- Industrial / Plant Operations: Monday to Friday, 8-hour shift with on-call availability for corrective maintenance and equipment breakdowns.
