Job summary
The Environmental Compliance Officer ensures that the project operates in compliance with all environmental requirements throughout construction. Environmental breaches on a project of this profile carry regulatory, reputational, and programme risk; this role manages those risks proactively
Job descriptions & requirements
Responsibilities:
- Manage all site environmental controls: dust suppression, noise monitoring, water discharge controls, and soil erosion prevention
- Monitor and record environmental performance against approved standards; produce monthly environmental compliance reports
- Manage construction waste: ensure correct segregation, storage, and disposal through licensed contractors; maintain waste transfer records
- Manage concrete washout areas; ensure no concrete waste or wash water enters the drainage system or open ground
- Monitor fuel storage and chemical storage areas for leakage or spill risk; manage any spill incidents
- Coordinate all regulatory environmental site inspections; escort inspectors and respond to any compliance notices
- Maintain the environmental compliance log; report any non-compliance to the HSE Manager and Project Director immediately
- Support the environmental consultant in preparing post-construction environmental compliance documentation
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related field
- Minimum years of experience in environmental compliance management on construction projects in Nigeria
- Strong knowledge of applicable environmental standards and construction environmental management requirements
- First-hand experience managing regulatory environmental site inspections
