Job summary

Homik Engineering Limited is seeking an experienced Electrical & Instrumentation Engineer (Fire & Gas Specialist) to support the delivery of Electrical, Instrumentation, Control Systems, and Fire & Gas engineering activities across Conceptual, FEED, and Detailed Engineering Design projects within the oil and gas industry.

Job descriptions & requirements

Responsibilities:

Electrical Engineering:

  • Execute electrical engineering activities during Conceptual, FEED, and Detailed Design phases.
  • Prepare electrical design calculations, specifications, and technical reports.
  • Design and review:
    • Power generation systems.
    • Medium Voltage (MV) and Low Voltage (LV) distribution systems.
    • Motor Control Centers (MCCs).
    • Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs).
    • Transformers and switchgear systems.
    • UPS and emergency power systems.
    • Earthing and lightning protection systems.
  • Perform:
    • Electrical load calculations.
    • Cable sizing calculations.
    • Voltage drop calculations.
    • Short-circuit studies.
    • Protective device coordination studies.
    • Lighting design calculations.

Instrumentation & Control Engineering

Develop and review:

  • Instrument Index.
  • Instrument Datasheets.
  • I/O Lists.
  • Cable Schedules.
  • Hook-up Drawings.
  • Instrument Installation Details.
  • Logic Diagrams.
  • Cause & Effect Charts.

Specify and evaluate field instrumentation including:

  • Pressure Instruments.
  • Temperature Instruments.
  • Flow Instruments.
  • Level Instruments.
  • Analytical Instruments.
  • Support the design of process control and automation systems.

Fire & Gas Engineering

  • Develop Fire and Gas Detection Philosophies.
  • Perform Fire and Gas Mapping Studies.
  • Determine detector coverage requirements.
  • Prepare Fire and Gas Layout Drawings.
  • Develop Cause and Effect Matrices.
  • Design Fire and Gas shutdown logic.
  • Specify and evaluate:
    • Gas Detectors.
    • Flame Detectors.
    • Smoke Detectors.
    • Heat Detectors.
    • Toxic Gas Detection Systems.
    • Fire Alarm Systems.
    • Audible and Visual Alarm Systems.
  • Support Fire Risk Assessments (FRA), Fire Hazard Analysis (FHA), and Explosion Hazard Assessments.

Safety Systems Engineering:

  • Participate in the design and implementation of:
    • Emergency Shutdown (ESD) Systems.
    • Process Shutdown (PSD) Systems.
    • Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS).
  • Support SIL Assessment and Verification activities.
  • Participate in HAZID, HAZOP, LOPA, and Design Review workshops.

Control Systems Engineering:

  • Support the design and integration of:
    • Distributed Control Systems (DCS).
    • Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC).
    • SCADA Systems.
    • Integrated Control and Safety Systems (ICSS).
  • Review control narratives and operational philosophies.

Project Engineering Activities

  • Participate in Conceptual Studies, FEED, and Detailed Design projects.
  • Prepare engineering deliverables in accordance with project schedules and quality requirements.
  • Coordinate with Process, Mechanical, Piping, Civil/Structural, and HSE disciplines.
  • Participate in vendor package reviews and technical bid evaluations.
  • Support site surveys, commissioning, start-up, and troubleshooting activities when required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • COREN registration or eligibility for registration is an advantage.
  • Minimum of 5–10 years of relevant experience in the oil and gas industry.
  • Demonstrated experience in Conceptual, FEED, and Detailed Engineering Design projects.
  • Experience in both greenfield and brownfield projects is desirable.
  • Strong technical understanding of oil and gas production facilities.
  • Knowledge of Fire & Gas detection systems and functional safety principles.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication and technical report-writing skills.
  • Ability to work within multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet project deadlines.

Software Proficiency:

  • ETAP.
  • Dialux.
  • SmartPlant Instrumentation (SPI).
  • AutoCAD.
  • Navisworks.
  • Microsoft Office Suite.
