Job descriptions & requirements

Job Title: Director of Marketing & Business Development

Type: Full-Time

Reports to: CEO

Location: Hybrid (with travel for key accounts and events)

About Krowdshield:

Krowdshield is an AI-powered community safety intelligence platform currently in beta. We combine real-time crowdsourced incident reporting with AI-driven insights to help individuals, businesses, campuses, and institutions make smarter, faster decisions about safety in their environments. Our platform sits at the intersection of public safety infrastructure, community engagement, and enterprise risk management — and we're just getting started.

We're looking for a Director of Marketing & Business Development — a sharp, mission-driven growth leader who can operate as the tip of the spear for Krowdshield's commercial expansion. You will work directly with and report to the CEO, who leads the overall strategy and will step in as executive presence on major enterprise or institutional pursuits. This is a high-ownership, high-visibility role for someone who thrives in early-stage environments and knows how to build pipeline, craft compelling narratives, and convert prospects into customers — all without a large team beneath them.

What you will own:

Business Development & Pipeline:

  • Build and manage a qualified pipeline of target accounts across campuses, property management firms, event organizers, municipalities, and enterprise security buyers.
  • Lead outreach, discovery calls, and presentations with mid-level and senior client stakeholders; hand off to the CEO for C-suite or executive-level closes on major accounts.
  • Develop and nurture relationships with channel partners, integration partners, and industry influencers that can accelerate distribution.
  • Represent Krowdshield at industry conferences, public safety forums, and smart city events.

Marketing & Brand:

  • Own Krowdshield's positioning and messaging across all audiences — consumers, businesses, and institutional buyers.
  • Develop collateral: segment-specific one-pagers, pitch decks, case studies, and white papers that convert interest into action.
  • Build and execute a content strategy that positions Krowdshield as a thought leader in community safety and risk intelligence.
  • Manage digital presence including the website, LinkedIn, and relevant channels — with a focus on building credibility, not vanity metrics.
  • Lead PR efforts: identify story angles, cultivate media relationships, and generate earned coverage around platform milestones and safety events.

Community & User Growth

  • Develop strategies to grow Krowdshield's community of active reporters, whose data powers the platform's intelligence layer.
  • Design community engagement programs that reward participation and deepen user loyalty.
  • Partner with the product team to close the loop between user feedback and feature development.

Measurement & Reporting

  • Define the metrics that matter: pipeline velocity, conversion rates, CAC, user growth, engagement — and report them clearly to the CEO.
  • Turn Krowdshield's platform data into public-facing impact reports that drive earned media and funder interest.

Requirements:

  • 5–8 years of experience spanning both marketing and business development, ideally at a startup, SaaS company, or mission-driven organization.
  • Proven track record closing deals or partnerships with businesses, institutions, or government — not just generating leads.
  • Outstanding communicator: you can write a white paper, deliver a boardroom presentation, and craft a LinkedIn post that actually gets read.
  • Comfortable navigating complex, multi-stakeholder sales environments — building trust at the manager level while setting the table for executive closes.
  • Self-directed and scrappy: you know how to prioritize when everything feels urgent and build systems that scale.
  • Data-literate: you track what matters, draw insights from it, and adjust course without being asked.

Strong Differentiators:

  • Background or deep familiarity with public safety, civic tech, campus security, smart cities, or community resilience.
  • Experience marketing or selling a platform with a dual-sided or community-driven model (supply and demand must both grow).
  • Existing network within security, real estate, higher education, event management, or municipal government.
  • Experience with grant writing or institutional funding narratives — a differentiator as Krowdshield pursues foundation and government partnerships.
  • Comfort working in a nonprofit or hybrid organizational structure.

Performance Scorecard:

Success in this role will be evaluated against the following milestones:

  • 90 Days: Establish relationships with 10+ target accounts (campuses, property managers, event orgs); launch at least 2 partnership conversations; develop a 1-pager and pitch deck tailored to each segment.
  • 6 Months: Convert 2–3 pilot customers or signed LOIs; produce first public impact report using platform data; build a pipeline of 20+ qualified opportunities; establish Krowdshield's voice on LinkedIn and relevant channels.
  • 12 Months: Drive measurable growth in user base and institutional clients; secure 1+ major partnership or anchor customer; own the full marketing function with data-backed reporting to the CEO.

What Success Looks Like Long-Term:

The right person in this role will have directly contributed to Krowdshield becoming the recognized safety intelligence platform in at least two target verticals within 18 months. They will have built the marketing and BD infrastructure from near-zero — the brand story, the pipeline process, the community growth playbook — and will be ready to lead or build a small team as the organization scales.
