Compliance and Legal Officer

Role Description The Compliance and Legal Officer is a full-time, on-site role based in Lekki. This position is responsible for monitoring and ensuring the company’s adherence to applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies, particularly in financial services and digital payments. Day-to-day activities include reviewing and drafting legal documents and contracts, assessing legal and regulatory risks, and advising internal teams on compliance requirements. The role also involves maintaining up-to-date knowledge of relevant regulations, coordinating with regulators or external counsel when needed, conducting compliance audits, and supporting the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and staff training. The Compliance and Legal Officer collaborates closely with operations, product, and risk teams to embed compliance into business processes and support secure, ethical growth.

Qualifications

• Strong foundation in Law, with the ability to interpret and apply legal principles to fintech and financial services operations.
• Demonstrated expertise in Regulatory Compliance and Legal Compliance, including familiarity with relevant local and international financial regulations.
• Proficiency in Legal Document Preparation and handling Legal Issues, such as contract drafting, review, and dispute management.
• Excellent analytical, risk assessment, and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and a structured approach to documentation.
• Effective communication and stakeholder management skills, including the ability to explain complex legal concepts in clear, practical terms.
• Bachelor’s degree in Law (LL.B) and admission to practice law; additional compliance certifications are an advantage.
• Previous experience in fintech, financial services, or banking compliance roles is highly beneficial.
• Ability to work on-site in Lekki, collaborate in cross-functional teams, and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
