Job summary

You will run the initiative's communications and outreach from launch to the end of the tribunal season. There is no agency: you will be the person who gets parties to the table, gets the story on air, and keeps the public momentum going every week. This is earned media and convening, not advertising. You will work with the co-conveners, our legal counsel and a small technical team that runs the pledge website.

Job descriptions & requirements

Responsibilities:

Launch and Party Outreach:

  • Prepare the launch pack: the pledge, a plain-language guide and a party pack explaining how one party pledge covers all its candidates.
  • Issue identical invitation letters to every registered party on the same day, co-signed by the co-conveners, and log every delivery.
  • Organise pre-briefings for parties, the launch event and the press conference.
  • Follow up with party and candidate offices that have engaged, state by state, through to the national (10 December) and state (6 January) agent deadlines.
  • Support the co-conveners and advisory board with introductions, briefing notes and logistics.

Media Relations:

  • Build relationships with politics, data and legal desks at major newspapers, TV stations and online outlets.
  • Secure TV and radio slots on programmes such as Arise, Channels and TVC, in English, Pidgin and Hausa.
  • Place op-eds and explainers for the co-conveners and supporting lawyers.
  • Run embargoed press briefings before launch, including on our public-data report on recent off-cycle elections.
  • Write and issue the weekly tally release every Tuesday, plus the 10 December and 6 January snapshot releases.

Spokespeople:

  • Prepare co-conveners and supporting lawyers for every appearance with briefing notes, likely questions and practice runs.
  • Turn appearances into short clips and quotes for the initiative's channels.

Social Media and Distribution:

  • Run the initiative's social media accounts: daily posts, active participation in election conversations, and the live pledge counter.
  • Commission explainer content from content creators who can break the pledge down simply for ordinary Nigerians. We work with content creators, not celebrities.
  • Share approved cards and explainers through the WhatsApp news and community groups you are part of.
  • Coordinate translations of cards and explainers into Pidgin, Hausa, Yoruba and Igbo.

Standards and Reporting:

  • Get every claim, letter, release and post approved by counsel before it goes out: within 24 hours on working days and 4 hours on election weekends
  • Answer corrections and media enquiries the same working day.
  • Send a one-page report every Monday: parties and candidates engaged, coverage, bookings, social numbers and any issues.

Requirements:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience.
  • A minimum of a degree in a related field.

Work Type: 5-month Contract
