Job summary
The Communications and Community Manager will drive the external communication, community engagement, and marketing strategies of the African Institute for Artificial Intelligence (AI-4AI).

Responsibilities:
Communications:
- Develop and implement comprehensive communication strategies that align with AI-4AI’s brand, mission, programs, and membership goals.
- Craft compelling content (press releases, articles, newsletters, reports, donor/member stories) that tells AI-4AI’s story
- and showcases its impact.
- Prepare and send regular email updates and e-newsletters to members and wider stakeholders, ensuring timely and
- relevant information flow.
- Create engaging, on-brand content for social media platforms (Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram), managing posts and campaigns to grow engagement and reach.
- Support the creation of high-quality digital and print materials for events, initiatives, and campaigns in collaboration with designers and program teams.
Community and Membership Management:
- Lead communications and engagement for AI-4AI’s membership program, focusing on acquisition, onboarding, engagement, and retention of members.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for members, responding to inquiries, facilitating connections, and ensuring a positive member experience.
- Design and implement member engagement initiatives (e.g., webinars, virtual meetups, learning circles, working groups, community forums) that create value for members and highlight AI-4AI’s work.
- Maintain accurate membership records and support simple membership data tracking in collaboration with the relevant internal teams or tools (e.g., CRM, membership database).
- Develop and execute communication flows for different stages of the membership journey (prospective members, new members, active members, lapsed members).
- Gather, analyze, and share feedback from members (surveys, interviews, events) to inform programming, services, and communication priorities.
- Identify and cultivate key community champions and member leaders to drive engagement, advocacy, and peer-to-peer connection within the network.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in communications, Marketing, Graphic Design, Public Relations, or related field.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in communications and/or community engagement, preferably within a membership-based, nonprofit, or network organization.
- Proven experience designing and implementing communication and engagement strategies for communities or membership programs.
- Experience managing social media platforms.
- Experience working with diverse stakeholders (members, partners, donors, media, civil society) in Africa or similar contexts is an advantage.
Skills:
- Excellent writing, editing, and storytelling skills
- Experience facilitating online and hybrid events (webinars, roundtables, AMAs, cohorts), encouraging participation and inclusive discussions.
- Strong graphic design skills for creating visual assets for communication purposes.
- Proficiency in social media management and digital marketing tools.
- Skill in designing engagement activities (challenges, spotlights, learning sessions, peer groups) that align with member needs and AI-4AI’s mission.
- Project management skills, with an ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
