Civil Project Engineer
Job summary
Kents Marvel Ltd. is seeking a detail-oriented Civil Engineer to support road construction and civil infrastructure projects in Nigeria and Canada. The successful candidate will assist with drawing and specification reviews, cost tracking, quantity take-offs, contract administration, project documentation, scheduling, and project coordination.
Job descriptions & requirements
Pre-Construction & Planning:
- Feasibility Studies: Analyze site survey reports, geographical maps, and soil tests to determine structural and logistical viability.
- Design & Drafting: Utilize Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software to draft blueprints, create technical specifications, and calculate structural load capacities.
- Budgeting & Tendering: Estimate material, labor, and equipment costs. Assist in drafting job specifications and supervising the contractor bidding process.
Execution & Project Management:
- Site Supervision: Conduct regular site inspections to monitor progress, enforce OSHA safety protocols, and ensure quality control.
- Stakeholder Coordination: Act as the primary liaison between clients, architects, subcontractors, and regulatory bodies.
- Scheduling: Develop and maintain construction timelines using scheduling methodologies like PERT-CPM to track milestones and prevent delays.
- Problem Solving: Resolve on-the-ground engineering challenges and execute necessary design modifications as site conditions change.
Administration & Compliance:
- Contractor Management: Review and approve contractor quotations, method statements, manpower, and variation orders.
- Billing & Progress Reporting: Submit monthly progress billings to clients and draft comprehensive progress reports (weekly, monthly, and quarterly).
- Documentation: Manage Requests for Information (RFIs), submittals, and approvals of "as-built" drawings.
- Compliance: Secure necessary permits and ensure the project aligns with all local zoning laws, environmental impact assessments, and building codes
Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree or HND in Civil Engineering, Building Technology, Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field from a recognized institution.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in construction, engineering, project coordination, estimating, quantity surveying, or contract administration.
- Strong understanding of construction drawings, specifications, and construction documentation.
- Working knowledge of construction contracts, scope management, change orders, and project controls.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel for: Cost tracking, Budget monitoring, Progress reporting, Data analysis, Formulas, Pivot Tables, and Lookups
- Ability to review drawings and specifications and identify missing information, conflicts, and constructability concerns.
- Excellent written and spoken English.
- Comfortable leading and participating in virtual meetings using Microsoft Teams, Zoom, and Google Meet.
- Strong internet connection, laptop, and reliable power supply.
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines without constant supervision.
