Chinese Translator

Responsibilities:

• Provide accurate spoken and written translation between Chinese and English during meetings, site activities, technical discussions, and official engagements.
• Translate technical specifications, construction procedures, contracts, correspondence, reports, and other project documentation.
• Facilitate effective communication between Chinese expatriates, Nigerian staff, subcontractors, consultants, government agencies, and other stakeholders.
• Support project teams during transmission line surveys, tower foundation construction, stringing works, substation activities, inspections, testing, and commissioning.
• Assist with preparing meeting minutes, technical reports, project presentations, and official correspondence while maintaining confidentiality and translation accuracy.

Requirements:

• Minimum of a Higher National Diploma in Chinese Language, Translation, Linguistics, Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 5 years of professional Chinese-English translation/interpreting experience, preferably on power transmission, substation, infrastructure, or EPC construction projects.
• HSK Level 5 or above is mandatory. Candidates with HSK Level 6 will have an added advantage.
• Fluent in spoken and written Mandarin Chinese and English, with excellent interpretation and translation skills.
• Ability to understand and accurately translate engineering, construction, electrical, and transmission line terminology.
• Experience supporting Chinese engineers and project management teams on construction sites.
• Strong communication, organizational, interpersonal, and cross-cultural coordination skills.
• Willingness to travel frequently and work across project sites within Nigeria.

Working Conditions & Compensation:

• As a Chinese Translator, you are required to have your own laptop/computer for daily work.
• The company provides shared accommodation (2–3 people per room).
• The company provides daily transportation between the accommodation and the workplace.
• The company does not provide meals; however, a shared kitchen is available where employees can prepare their own meals.
• Due to the tight project schedule, overtime (including weekdays and weekends) and short-term deployment to project sites may be required.
• Overtime is paid in accordance with company policy. This role is therefore suitable only for candidates who are willing and able to work overtime when required.
