The Business Development Manager will be responsible for driving customer acquisition, sales growth, market expansion, and brand visibility across our target markets. The role involves identifying and developing relationships with restaurants, hotels, bakeries, food businesses, offices, and other potential customers, while actively promoting the company's products and services. The ideal candidate should be commercially minded, proactive, confident in approaching businesses, and comfortable with field sales, relationship management, and marketing activities.

Responsibilities:

Business Development & Sales:

  • Identify and target potential customers, including restaurants, hotels, bakeries, food businesses, offices, and other commercial establishments.
  • Develop and maintain a strong pipeline of prospective business customers.
  • Conduct physical and telephone outreach to prospective clients.
  • Visit potential and existing customers to introduce the company's products and services.
  • Generate leads and convert prospects into paying customers.
  • Prepare quotations and negotiate pricing and commercial terms within approved limits.
  • Follow up consistently on leads, quotations, and prospective customer accounts.
  • Identify opportunities to cross-sell and upsell products such as gas, vegetable oil, bakery products, and other FMCG items.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key customers.
  • Monitor customer needs and identify opportunities for repeat and recurring orders.
  • Work towards achieving agreed monthly and quarterly sales targets.


Market Development:

  • Research and identify new markets, customer segments, and business opportunities.
  • Monitor competitors, pricing, product availability, and market trends.
  • Identify areas where the company can expand its customer base and product offerings.
  • Develop strategies for increasing sales within existing territories and customer segments.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the FMCG distribution market.


Marketing:

  • Develop and implement marketing activities to increase awareness of the company's products.
  • Promote products through appropriate online and offline channels.
  • Support the company's social media and digital marketing activities.
  • Develop marketing materials, sales presentations, flyers, and promotional campaigns when required.
  • Participate in business networking events, trade activities, exhibitions, and industry events.
  • Develop referral and partnership opportunities with relevant businesses.
  • Work with management to develop promotional offers and customer acquisition campaigns.


Customer Relationship Management: 

  • Maintain regular communication with existing customers
  • Understand customer requirements and provide appropriate product recommendations
  • Follow up on customer orders and coordinate with the relevant internal teams to ensure smooth fulfilment
  • Handle customer enquiries and escalate complaints where necessary
  • Maintain accurate records of customer information, interactions, orders, and opportunities
  • Encourage repeat purchases and build long-term customer relationships.


Reporting & Performance Tracking:

  • Maintain a daily/weekly record of sales activities and customer visits.
  • Prepare regular business development and marketing reports.
  • Track leads generated, prospects contacted, customers acquired, sales generated, and conversion rates.
  • Provide management with feedback on market conditions, customer needs, competitor activities, and pricing.
  • Monitor performance against assigned sales and business development targets.


Requirements:

  • Minimum of an HND in Business Administration, Marketing, Sales, Economics, or a related field.
  • 2–4 years of experience in business development, sales, marketing, FMCG, distribution, or a related industry.
  • Experience selling to businesses, particularly restaurants, hotels, food businesses, bakeries, offices, or other commercial customers, is an advantage.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
  • Proven ability to generate leads and convert prospects into customers.
  • Strong customer relationship management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative.
  • Good knowledge of the Lagos business market.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and basic CRM/sales reporting tools.
  • Willingness to conduct field visits and meet prospective customers
  • Must be target-driven and comfortable working in a sales-focused environment.


Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):

Performance will be measured based on:

  • Number of qualified leads generated.
  • Number of new business customers acquired.
  • Monthly sales revenue generated.
  • Customer conversion rate.
  • Number and value of recurring customers/orders.
  • Number of customer visits and business meetings conducted.
  • Customer retention and repeat purchases.
  • Growth in assigned customer accounts.
  • Marketing campaigns and leads generated.
  • Accuracy and timeliness of sales reports.

Remuneration: NGN 250k - 300k


Location: OPIC, Lagos


Note: The role will involve a combination of field-based work with prospective and existing customers across Lagos. The successful candidate should therefore be comfortable travelling within Lagos for customer acquisition, meetings, market visits, and business development activities.
