Business Analyst (Oil & Gas) - Freelance

We are recruiting on behalf of a leading client in the oil and gas sector for the role of Business Analys.

Reports To: Chief Information Officer (CIO) / Head of IT Strategy

In this role, you will act as a crucial bridge between our business units (e.g., Drilling, Production, Subsurface, Supply Chain) and our technology teams. You will be responsible for analyzing business processes, identifying opportunities for improvement, and defining clear requirements for technology solutions that deliver measurable value to our oil and gas operations.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Business Needs Analysis & Elicitation:

• Collaborate with stakeholders from various domains (Upstream, Midstream, Downstream) to understand and document business challenges, goals, and opportunities.
• Conduct workshops, interviews, and site visits (including offshore/on-site facilities where applicable) to gather and validate business requirements.
• Analyze and map complex "as-is" business processes and design optimized "to-be" processes.

2. Requirements Definition & Management:

• Author clear, concise, and testable business requirements documents (BRDs), user stories, and functional specifications.
• Manage requirements throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring traceability from origin through to implementation and testing.
• Work closely with solution architects, data engineers, and developers to ensure requirements are understood and technically feasible.

3. Solution Design & Stakeholder Management:

• Facilitate the evaluation of proposed solutions (vendor products or custom builds) to ensure they meet business needs and provide a strong return on investment (ROI).
• Create business cases, including cost-benefit analysis, to support project funding and prioritization.
• Act as the primary point of contact for business stakeholders, managing expectations and ensuring continuous alignment.

4. Oil & Gas Domain Expertise:

• Develop a deep understanding of key oil and gas workflows, such as:
• Well Planning & Drilling: AFE (Authorization for Expenditure) process, drilling program execution, daily drilling reporting.
• Production Operations: Production allocation, downtime reporting, equipment maintenance.
• Subsurface: Seismic and well data analysis workflows.
• Supply Chain & Logistics: Materials management, procurement, vessel tracking.
• Understand the data generated by these processes and its significance for decision-making.

5. Testing & Implementation Support:

• Support the development of User Acceptance Test (UAT) plans and test cases.
• Facilitate UAT sessions with business users, ensuring the solution meets their needs.
• Assist in developing training materials and supporting change management activities to ensure smooth solution adoption.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience as a Business Analyst, with at least 3+ years in the oil and gas industry or a related heavy industrial sector.
• Proven experience in requirements gathering, process modeling (BPMN/UML), and creating detailed documentation.
• Strong understanding of project management methodologies (Agile, Scrum, Waterfall).
• Certification in Business Analysis (e.g., CBAP, CCBA, PMI-PBA).
• Hands-on experience with key industry software (e.g., SAP IS-Oil, OSIsoft PI, Landmark, AVEVA, Schlumberger's Petrel E&P platform).
• Familiarity with data analysis and visualization tools (e.g., SQL, Power BI, Spotfire) to support requirements analysis.
• Knowledge of digital initiatives common in oil and gas (e.g., Digital Oilfield, Predictive Maintenance, IIoT).
