Job summary
We are seeking a Bookkeeper who will play a key role in ensuring the financial accuracy and integrity of the operations of an art gallery. This position is responsible for maintaining accurate and up-to-date financial records across all revenue streams, including artwork sales, commissioned pieces, exhibitions, private viewings, etc.

Responsibilities:
- Record and maintain accurate financial transactions, including artwork sales, exhibition revenue, commissions, invoices, vendor payments, and operational expenses..
- Reconcile daily sales records, bank statements, transactions, and payment platforms to ensure financial accuracy.
- Track income generated from artwork sales, private commissions, exhibitions, corporate purchases, and special gallery events.
- Monitor operational expenses, including artist payments, exhibition setup costs, logistics, framing, marketing, and gallery maintenance expenses.
- Prepare and issue invoices, receipts, and payment documentation for collectors, clients, vendors, and partners.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date accounts payable and receivable records.
- Support budget monitoring, cost control initiatives, and preparation of basic financial and performance reports for management review.
- Assist with payroll preparation, artist disbursements, and staff expense reimbursements where applicable.
- Maintain organized financial documentation for audits, tax filings, inventory tracking, and regulatory compliance.
- Work closely with operations and management to support accurate costing and pricing decisions.
- Support external accountants and auditors by preparing financial records, reconciliations, and supporting documents for audits and financial reviews.
- Maintain and improve financial record-keeping processes and internal controls across gallery sales, exhibitions, commissioned works, online transactions, and events, while identifying discrepancies and ensuring financial accuracy and accountability.
- Other responsibilities as assigned by management.
Requirements:
- Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant bookkeeping or accounting experience.
- Proven experience as a Bookkeeper or Accounts Officer, preferably within an art gallery, museum, creative studio, luxury retail business, or a similar environment.
- Strong understanding of financial record-keeping, reconciliations, invoicing, and expense management.
- Basic knowledge of artwork sales tracking, taxation, and financial compliance is an advantage.
- Strong numerical accuracy and attention to detail for recording daily transactions.
- Ability to reconcile bank statements, sales records, and cash flows.
- Ability to prepare simple financial reports, summaries, and management dashboards.
- Knowledge of basic payroll processing, invoicing, and accounts payable/receivable.
- Knowledge of financial operations within a creative business, including tracking, exhibition-related expenses, commissions, inventory records, and client transactions.
- Ability to work independently and support management with actionable financial insights.
- Proactive and detail-oriented, with the ability to anticipate financial issues and maintain accuracy under pressure.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple records simultaneously.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to detect discrepancies and identify solutions.
- Good communication skills to coordinate with operations, management, and vendors
- Knowledge of maintaining accurate books of accounts, including sales, expenses, invoices, and receipts.
- Working understanding of bookkeeping principles, accounts payable/receivable, and cash flow management.
- Ability to reconcile bank statements, POS records, and payment platforms.
- Understanding of inventory tracking, valuation, exhibition costs, and expense monitoring.
- Familiarity with budget management, cost analysis, and preparation of management reports.
- Awareness of taxation requirements, statutory filings, and financial compliance standards.
- Working knowledge of accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, Xero), Microsoft Excel, and POS or order management systems.
- Ability to interpret financial data to support decision-making and operational efficiency.
- Experience in improving bookkeeping processes and internal controls for accuracy and efficiency
Remuneration: NGN 500,000 - 600,000
